The post Bengals’ Star QB Joe Burrow to Miss the Remainder of 2023 Season with Wrist Injury appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Burrow got hurt during the 34-20 Thursday Night Football loss against the Baltimore Ravens. The injury took place when the 26-year-old player landed on his wrist after being hit by Baltimore’s Jadeveon Clowney. He exited the game on the following play and didn’t return.
An MRI test on Friday morning confirmed that Burrow has a torn ligament in his wrist and will likely need surgery to get it repaired.
“It’s tough,” Burrow told reporters after the news was confirmed. “You work so hard for seasons and moments like these. Whenever you get hurt, and it ends early, it’s tough to handle. That’s a part of the game.”
Joe Burrow dealt with a calf injury throughout the preseason and to begin the 2023 campaign. This caused him to struggle in the first weeks of the season, but he looked like his former self before the latest injury. Prior to the Ravens game, Burrow had a streak of five games with at least two touchdowns while also crossing the 300+ passing yards three times during that span.
With Burrow out, the Bengals’ chances to secure a playoff spot in a crowded AFC North look slim at best. They are currently at the bottom of the division with a 5-5 record and will have to turn to backup Jake Browning for the remainder of the campaign.

]]>Burrow strained his calf during practice in late July and went on to miss more than five weeks of training camp. He ended up tweaking the injury late in Sunday’s 27-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and it is “hard to say” whether he will make the field against the Rams, according to Taylor.
Speaking with the media, Burrow himself said he needs some time to see how his calf feels before being able to determine whether he’s ready to get back into action.
“We’re gonna have to wait and see,” said Burrow. “I’m not sure how it’s gonna feel the next couple days. It’s pretty sore right now, but no telling how it’s gonna feel. So I think we’re gonna take it day by day.”
Burrow has had a slow start to the season, throwing for just 82 yards in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. He bounced back a bit in Week 2, completing 27 out of 41 passes attempted for 222 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.
If Burrow isn’t good to go in Week 3, the Bengals will be forced to turn to backup Jake Browning. Browning, who entered the league in 2019, has only attempted one pass during the NFL regular season in his career.

]]>The post Bengals Release Veteran OT La’el Collins appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Collins suffered a torn ACL in December and isn’t expected to be in game shape for at least four more weeks. By releasing him, the Bengals saved around $7.4 million in a salary cap.
Collins joined the Bengals on a three-year, $21 million contract ahead of the 2022 season. He started 15 games at right tackle last year before suffering a torn ACL and MCL in a Week 16 matchup against the New England Patriots. The 30-year-old player previously spent seven years with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Bengals were able to let Collins go because they have 2019’s first-round pick Jonah Williams covering the right tackle position. Williams primarily played left tackle since entering the NFL but was moved to the right side of the offensive line after Cincinnati signed Pro Bowler Orlando Brown Jr.
Collins, on the other hand, will likely be able to land a job with another NFL team when he recovers from his ACL injury. Teams with playoff aspirations value offensive line depth, and Collins will be an ideal candidate as a free agent.

]]>The post Bengals Make QB Joe Burrow the Highest-Paid Player in NFL History appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>According to multiple reports, Burrow accepted a five-year, $275 million extension with the Bengals earlier this week. The deal comes with $219.01 million and an average annual salary of $55 million, which makes him the highest-paid player in the league.
The Bengals are yet to officially confirm the deal but have been leaving hints on their social media profiles lately.
Burrow is credited for transforming the Bengals into Super Bowl contenders since being selected first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. After a knee injury cut his rookie season short, Burrow won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award and led Cincinnati to a Super Bowl appearance in 2021. He then earned his first Pro Bowl nod last season with a campaign that included 4,475 throwing yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 picks.
Burrow is the latest young quarterback to get a market-changing new contract. Earlier in the offseason, Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts, Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert, and Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson all signed long-term deals with their respective franchises.
Getting a new deal with Burrow sorted out was the most important piece of business for the Bengals this offseason. They will now likely focus on trying to get an extension done with wideout Tee Higgins, who is set to enter the final year of his rookie deal.

]]>Recently, Williams lost his guaranteed starting position as the Bengals went on to sign four-time Pro Bowl tackle Orlando Brown Jr. earlier in the week. Brown, who was signed on a four-year, $64 million deal including a $31 million signing bonus, seems set to challenge Williams for his starting spot, especially given the funds that were spent on the player. Offensive line coach Frank Pollack confirmed this belief, telling reporters that Brown would play at the left tackle position.
Pollack revealed that he has spoken with Williams regarding his future on the team, however, he refused to give specifics. “I hope we get to coach him,” Pollack commented. “He’s a good football player. He’s got a bright future. Hopefully it’s still here with the Bengals in 2023.”
Should Williams remain with the Bengals, he may also look to challenge for the right tackle position. Following the injury of La’el Collins, the Bengals signed Cody Ford on a one-year deal.

]]>Cincinnati was prepared to pay a premium price to land Brown, one of the most highly-regarded offensive tackles in free agency this offseason. Portner confirmed that Brown will earn $42.3 million over the first two years of his contract while receiving a signing bonus of over $31 million; the highest in history for an offensive linesman. This signing bonus is $10 million higher than those earned by offensive linemen Ted Karras, Alex Cappa, and La’el Collins combined when they signed for the Bengals last offseason.
Upon arriving in Cincinnati, Brown will be the most accomplished player on the Bengals’ roster. He is one of just four offensive linemen in the league to be named a Pro Bowler over each of the last four seasons, along with Jason Kelce, Quenton Nelson, and Joel Bitonio.
Should Brown continue to play left tackle upon moving to the Bengals, then former first-round pick Jonah Williams is largely expected to be shifted to a new position within the starting lineup.

]]>Although he participated in practice to a limited extent prior to the Bengals’ win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, he appeared to pull up at the end of a route, thereby hinting that he had not entirely overcome his injury. After remaining on the field for the entirety of the game, Chase refused to go into specifics about his injury with reporters.
Sources confirmed that Chase had met with a specialist on Wednesday in order to seek more insight into his injury. When asked about Chase’s injury, Bengals coach Zac Taylor stated that the player is struggling with some soreness and that his condition is being monitored on a day-to-day basis.
As a result of the timeline of his injury, Chase may be placed on injured reserve, which would see him remain out of action for a minimum of four weeks.

]]>Burrow had his first turnover early in the fourth quarter. With his team trailing 3-10, the LSU product faced 3rd & 3 on Chicago’s 48-yard line. He threw a shorthanded pass to Tyler Boyd, but the Bears’ linebacker Roquan Smith intercepted it and returned the ball to the Bengals’ end zone.
On the next possession, the Bengals gave the ball to Joe Mixon, who managed to get them only four yards. Facing 2nd & 6 on his own 29 yards, Burrow tried to find Tee Higgins on the left side. However, Chicago’s corner Jaylon Johnson beat Higgins and got another interception for his team.
The Bears didn’t use this turnover and had to punt the ball. However, Burrow immediately gave it back. The 2020’s first overall pick had his pass tipped by Alec Ogletree and picked up by Angelo Blackson, who managed to return it to the Bengals’ 9-yard line before being tackled.
Joe Burrow managed to redeem himself later in the fourth, throwing for two touchdowns that included a 42-yard bomb to Ja’Marr Chase. Still, there was no time for the Bengals to do more and avoid a defeat.

]]>Johnson famously wore the number 85 during his 10 years with the Bengals and even legally added “Ochocinco” (Spanish for 85) to his name. He currently owns franchise records in most receiving categories, including receptions, yards, and touchdowns.
Surprisingly, the Bengals still didn’t retire number 85, making it available for Higgins when he came into the league in 2020. However, the Clemson product soon regretted the decision when the fans started labeling him as “Ochocinco 2.0”.
“I keep seeing on Twitter, ‘Ochocinco 2.0,'” Higgins said via ESPN. “I don’t want to be a 2.0. No disrespect to Chad. He’s a great receiver, this and that. I just don’t want to be a 2.0 for myself, man. I want to be Tee Higgins, 1.0, number five.”
The 22-year-old player added that he believes the number 85 shouldn’t get back in circulation and believes the number “is gonna get lifted one day” in Johnson’s honor.
Higgins, who was the Bengals’ second-round pick in 2020, is coming off a productive first season in NFL. He finished the campaign with 67 catches, 908 receiving yards, and six receiving touchdowns.

]]>In order to get Price, who was Cincinnati’s No. 21 pick in 2018, the Giants sent defensive tackle BJ Hill and a 2022 conditional seventh-round draft to the Bengals. Hill also entered the league in 2018, being selected in the third round.
Price is expected to give the Giants badly needed help on the interior positions in the offensive line. The 26-year-old player can cover multiple positions, having started at center, left guard, and right guard positions in the past. He played a total of 42 games, including 19 starts, in his pro career.
On the other side, the Bengals used the opportunity to add depth on defense with the acquisition of Hill while moving a player they didn’t intend to use. It wasn’t a secret that the team’s head coach Zac Taylor wasn’t a fan of Price and sought out other options.
Hill should be a rotational player for the Bengals, essentially playing the same role he did with the Giants in the past two years. The NC State product has 116 tackles, 7.5 sacks, three pass deflections, and 13 QB hits since entering the NFL.
