The post DC United Close to Securing a Move for Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>The interest of DC in Poland international was reported earlier this month after the two clubs engaged in advanced talks. Now it seems that it is only a matter of time before the deal gets official.
The Athletic’s Phil Hay reports that DC United has a deal in place with Leeds and that the player is open to a move. The 32-year-old player is unhappy with his playing time on Elland Road, and the offered contract is better than the one he currently has. On the other hand, the Premier League club wouldn’t mind cashing in on a player that they don’t use that often.
Klich has a big fan in DC United’s head coach Wayne Rooney, who is reportedly pushing hard for the move. Rooney sees Klich as the key player and someone he can build a winning team around. United is trying to bounce back after a disappointing season that saw them finish last in the Eastern Conference and have the worst record in the league.
Mateusz Klich played for Bundesliga’s VfL Wolfsburg and Eredivisie’s FC Twente, among other clubs, before landing with Leeds in 2017. He helped the club to earn a promotion to Premier League in 2019–20 and was one of the key players that helped Leeds stay there ever since.
However, Klich has been an afterthought this season, failing to start a single Premier League game. He played just 188 minutes and failed to register a goal or assist. He did, however, score twice in English Cup.

]]>United made the decision to change things up after Olsen oversaw just two wins in 2020. The club is currently stuck at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 11 points.
The club announced the news on Thursday, confirming that assistant coach Chad Ashton will take over on an interim basis and see out the season. Olsen, on the other hand, will remain with the organization in a different role.
Ben Olsen has been with DC United for more than two decades. He first played professionally for the MLS side between 1998 and 2010, before joining the club’s coaching staff first as an assistant and then as a head coach.
In 10 years at DC’s helm, Olsen’s compiled a 131-89-144 record and led the club to six playoff appearances. He brought one trophy to the club, winning US Cup in 2013.
“My overwhelming emotion right now is that I have been incredibly fortunate to be associated with this great club for 22 years,” said Olsen in a statement. “No one gets that opportunity in professional sports, and I am so much richer for all the amazing experiences and relationships along the way. I will always be grateful.”

]]>Higuain spent the last eight seasons with Columbus Crew, becoming one of the franchise’s most recognizable players. However, after ACL injury limited him to just 14 games in 2019, Crew decided not to renew his contract.
After parting ways with Columbus, it was widely expected for Higuain to end his career. However, according to The Athletic and Washington Post, D.C. United believes he can still play meaningful minutes in the league while adding value to their coaching staff as an assistant.
The two sides are expected to finalize the paperwork and make the agreement official in the next few days. The fans shouldn’t expect Higuain on the field just yet, however, as he is reportedly still a long way before returning to action, and will need around six weeks to get into playing shape.
Federico Higuain spent his early career playing in native Argentina before joining Columbus Crew in 2012. He went on to play 193 games in MLS since them, scoring 55 goals and dishing 63 assists. Higuain helped Columbus reach two Eastern Conference Semifinals, one Conference finals, and one MLS Cup finals.

]]>This will be Asad’s second stint with D.C. United, as he already played with the team during 2018 while on loan from Vélez Sarsfield. The Argentinian played 30 games with the club and contributed with nine goals and eight assists.
After his loan spell ended, United wanted to bring Asad on a permanent transfer, but couldn’t come to terms with Vélez. The 25-year-old will now return to MLS as a free agent, as his contract with Superliga Argentina side recently expired.
D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper didn’t hide his excitement after getting the job done.
“We are excited to finalize a deal to bring Yamil back to the District. He was an integral attacking piece for us during the 2018 season and we look forward to reintegrating him into the team in 2020,” – said Kasper in a statement. “Yamil has a high soccer IQ and is a great producer of goals and assists while bringing a winning mentality every time he steps on the field.”
During his time with Vélez, Yamil Asad made 66 appearances for the team, scoring four goals and dishing five assists. Asad also had a season-long sting with Atlanta United in 2017, when he played 33 MLS games and scored seven goals to go with 11 assists.

]]>British media are reporting that negotiation teams from the two clubs will be meeting in the US capital and will discuss the terms of a possible agreement. If they negotiate a move in January when Rooney is scheduled to leave United, Özil will be leaving his current club with more than 18 months left on his contract which expires in 2021.
The main possible problem that the MLS side can face in the process of negotiations is the huge weekly wage of $425,000 that Özil is currently earning in Arsenal, especially considering the fact that Rooney was paid almost $103,000 a week which is more than four times less.
There are reports claiming that in case of a negative outcome during the negotiations with Özil, the second contender for the spot can be the free agent Mario Balotelli.
