One of the biggest stars of Major League Soccer had his best game in the United States last weekend.

Wayne Rooney, who joined DC United last year, scored a hat trick in his team’s 5-0 win against Real Salt Lake.

Rooney is one of the biggest stars to have ever played in the MLS. He spent years as a world-class player in the Premier League, playing for Everton and Manchester United.

The win propelled DC United to first place in the Eastern Conference, albeit after only three games. They have won two games and drawn one on the season.

Rooney’s performance was spectacular on Saturday was a masterclass. In addition to his three goals, he also notched an assist. He pushed his scoring total to 15 in only 23 games with DC United.

The English attacker scored his first goal in Saturday’s game on a penalty kick in the 34th minute to put his team up 1-0.

His second goal came only 6 minutes later, when he received a ball in the penalty box and chipped a cheeky goal over Salt Lake keeper Nick Rimando’s head.

The last of his three goals came thanks to a beautiful Junior Moreno assist which found Rooney at point blank range. The legendary player didn’t miss his shot at goal, putting his team up 3-0.

DC United hopes that Rooney will continue giving them performances like this one for years to come.
