D.C. United are already working hard to make their roster better for the 2020 MLS season. The team announced on Tuesday that they have signed attacking midfielder Yamil Asad to a pre-contract for the next season.

This will be Asad’s second stint with D.C. United, as he already played with the team during 2018 while on loan from Vélez Sarsfield. The Argentinian played 30 games with the club and contributed with nine goals and eight assists.

After his loan spell ended, United wanted to bring Asad on a permanent transfer, but couldn’t come to terms with Vélez. The 25-year-old will now return to MLS as a free agent, as his contract with Superliga Argentina side recently expired.

D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper didn’t hide his excitement after getting the job done.

“We are excited to finalize a deal to bring Yamil back to the District. He was an integral attacking piece for us during the 2018 season and we look forward to reintegrating him into the team in 2020,” – said Kasper in a statement. “Yamil has a high soccer IQ and is a great producer of goals and assists while bringing a winning mentality every time he steps on the field.”

During his time with Vélez, Yamil Asad made 66 appearances for the team, scoring four goals and dishing five assists. Asad also had a season-long sting with Atlanta United in 2017, when he played 33 MLS games and scored seven goals to go with 11 assists.
