Novak Djokovic shook off concerns about his wrist injury ahead of the upcoming Australian Open, commenting that he has faced more severe injuries in his past two campaigns in the first Grand Slam of the season. The ATP world number one lost to Australia’s Alex De Minaur at the United Cup this month; his first defeat in Australia in six years.

“I had time from the last match against De Minaur in the United Cup to my first match here to recover,” Djokovic declared. “I’ve been training well. Practice sessions are pain-free so far. It’s all looking good. Let’s see how it goes.”

Djokovic won last year’s Australian Open while harboring a hamstring injury, while also emerging triumphant in the 2021 edition of the tournament despite an abdominal injury. He did not compete in the 2022 Australian Open due to being deported from the country after refusing to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

Lorenzo Musetti picked up one of the biggest wins of his career on Thursday, upsetting number-one seed Novak Djokovic 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 at the Monte Carlo Masters.

“I’m struggling not to cry. It was a really long match, not easy conditions. It was a bit windy, cold,” Musetti said after his first-ever win against the Serbian. “I’m really proud of myself. The rallies were long. It was a tough, physical battle. Beating Novak is something remarkable for me.”

The match was halted due to rain in the third set with the score tied at one game each. Once play resumed, Musetti broke away, grabbing a 4-3 lead before serving out the victory, winning on his fourth match point.

Djokovic was visibly frustrated throughout the match, eventually stomping on and destroying his racket during the second set after losing his service game. Musetti’s unexpected drop shots and deep groundstrokes proved too much for Djokovic to deal with, particularly given the windy weather conditions.

Novak Djokovic is set to miss next week’s Miami Open ATP Masters event after he was denied a Covid-19 vaccine exemption that would enable him to enter the United States without receiving a vaccination against Covid-19, tournament director James Blake said Friday.

“We tried to get Novak Djokovic to be allowed to get an exemption, but that wasn’t able to happen,” Blake announced to Tennis Channel. “Obviously, we’re one of the premier tournaments in the world. We’d like to have the best players that can play. We did all that we could. We tried to talk to the government, but that’s out of our hands.”

This decision will see Djokovic miss the upcoming Masters’ tournament in Indian Wells, California as well due to being denied entry to the country. Currently, the U.S. bars entry from unvaccinated foreigners to the country as part of its COVID-19 emergency declarations. This policy is expected to be lifted on May 11, however, meaning that Djokovic may be able to re-enter the United States in time for this year’s U.S. Open Grand Slam.

Novak Djokovic’s 20-match winning streak came to an end on Friday when he was defeated 6-4 6-4 by Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final of the Dubai Championships. With the top-seeded player out of contention, the final will be contested between the third-seeded Medvedev and the defending champion, Andrey Rublev.

Following Friday’s victory, Medvedev will look to extend his own winning streak of 13 games; the second-longest of his career. A former ATP world number one, Medvedev has gotten his year off to a flying start, winning tournaments in Doha and Rotterdam.

Competing in only his third tournament of the year, Djokovic was looking to continue his winning ways after lifting the 2023 Australian Open trophy, which saw him equal Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 career Grand Slam titles.

Prior to his loss to Medvedev, the Serbian’s last loss came in November last year, when he fell to Holger Rune in the Paris Masters final.

In the other semi-final, Rublev won 6-3, 7-6 (9) against Alexander Zverev. “Today, when I was going on court, I was thinking I have nothing to lose. He always beat me, so why I need to be tight,” Rublev remarked after his victory.

Medvedev and Rublev will meet in the Dubai Tennis Championships final on Saturday.

ATP world number one Novak Djokovic is through to the final of the US Open, having defeated Alexander Zverev 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in what was a tight semi-final encounter on Friday. Djokovic is now set to face second seed Daniil Medvedev in the men’s singles final on Sunday.

Should he defeat his Russian-born opponent in the final at Flushing Meadows, Djokovic will be able to break two records. He will become the first men’s singles player to win a calendar-year Grand Slam since 1969, as well as break the record for most career Grand Slam titles. Djokovic currently ties with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at 20 Grand Slams each.

During the post-match press conference after his semi-final victory, Djokovic was hesitant to express joy over his victory, instead referring to a Kobe Bryant quote after the Los Angeles Lakers took a 2-0 series lead in the 2009 NBA Finals.

“It’s his famous interview where he said, ‘Why should I be happy right now? Job is not done,'” Djokovic said. The Serbian national further explained that he has the motivation and excitement to take on his opponent and potentially make history in the process.

During the 2019 Madrid Open, the Swiss top player Roger Federer failed to qualify for the semi-finals after he got beaten by the neighboring Austrian Dominic Thiem in three sets.

For a place in the final, the Austrian will have to beat Novak Djokovic. Rafael Nadal, on the other hand, will have to face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Marin Cilic announced that he has to withdraw from the match because of food poisoning which took him out of the 2019 Madrid Open and that gave Novak Djokovic a walkover win.

The cancelation of the Djokovic–Cilic disappointed the fans that expected a great match but Roger Federer and Thiem made it up with their fierce match. During the past few years, the Austrian Thiem became a clay expert which helped him the upper hand in the match despite the aggressive play of Federer.

On the other side of the competition, the women’s draw is becoming more and more exciting. In the semifinals, Simona Halep secured her place in the final by beating Belinda Bencic. Kiki Bartens, on the other hand, beat Sloane Stephens and next she will face Simona Halep.

Once again Rafael Nadal proved to be the best player ever on clay.
The Spanish legend, won his record 11th title in Monte Carlo Masters after he quickly and efficiently swept Kei Nishikori from Japan 2-0, 6:3,6:2.

It only took one hour and 32 minutes of play to reach here, as we saw yet another dominant performance of the Bull from Manacor.
Nishikori simply didn’t stand a chance, despite leading 2:1 in the first set, and taking Nadal’s serve. At that point, many spectators were surprised, but quickly everything came to its place.
Until the end of the match, Rafa took the rival’s serve four times and recorded his 10th win over this player.
So far, Nadal played 12 championship matches in Monaco, and lost only one, back in 2013 against Novak Djokovic.
He will start the 171st week from the top spot in the ATP rankings this Monday, improving his result.
On the other hand, the Japanese star entered the finals of Monte Carlo Masters for the first time in his career, and became the first overall player from that Asian country to be the finalist here. Monte Carlo tournament is established in 1897. Unfortunately for him and his fans, Nishikori is still without a Masters title after this Sunday.

Novak Djokovic is preparing for the clay season, and it seems that he has an old friend beside him.

Marjan Vajda, the person who made Djokovic who he is today, was spotted practicing with his protege yesterday and immediately the speculations about Vajda’s return emerged to the surface.

It is confirmed now, that their partnership has been restored once again.

”Vajda is very happy to find himself on the court once again. He missed all the action, and also he wants to help Novak. Two of them started practicing with the highest intensity possible, and the positive energy is immediately felt around them. Djokovic is thrilled to have his old mentor back.” Novak’s team issued a statement to the media.

Since the last year, this is the first time that the two had contact. The Slovakian coach was with Djokovic throughout his whole career until the previous season when Novak disbanded his coaching team.

According to most of the experts and Djokovic itself, Vajda is the most important figure in his development.

Lately, the Serb has been struggling with his performances. Since the time when he won all four Grand Slams in a row, Djokovic’s game dropped significantly, and above all, he had troubles with injuries.

Several days ago he let go Radek Stepanek and Andre Aggasi who were his coaches at the time. Except for winning Eastbourne, there were no major results during their cooperation.

Is this a sign that one of the best in history might be coming back?
