During the 2019 Madrid Open, the Swiss top player Roger Federer failed to qualify for the semi-finals after he got beaten by the neighboring Austrian Dominic Thiem in three sets.

For a place in the final, the Austrian will have to beat Novak Djokovic. Rafael Nadal, on the other hand, will have to face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Marin Cilic announced that he has to withdraw from the match because of food poisoning which took him out of the 2019 Madrid Open and that gave Novak Djokovic a walkover win.

The cancelation of the Djokovic–Cilic disappointed the fans that expected a great match but Roger Federer and Thiem made it up with their fierce match. During the past few years, the Austrian Thiem became a clay expert which helped him the upper hand in the match despite the aggressive play of Federer.

On the other side of the competition, the women’s draw is becoming more and more exciting. In the semifinals, Simona Halep secured her place in the final by beating Belinda Bencic. Kiki Bartens, on the other hand, beat Sloane Stephens and next she will face Simona Halep.
