The Cincinnati Bengals confirmed on Friday that their star quarterback, Joe Burrow, will miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season with a wrist injury.

Burrow got hurt during the 34-20 Thursday Night Football loss against the Baltimore Ravens. The injury took place when the 26-year-old player landed on his wrist after being hit by Baltimore’s Jadeveon Clowney. He exited the game on the following play and didn’t return.

An MRI test on Friday morning confirmed that Burrow has a torn ligament in his wrist and will likely need surgery to get it repaired.

“It’s tough,” Burrow told reporters after the news was confirmed. “You work so hard for seasons and moments like these. Whenever you get hurt, and it ends early, it’s tough to handle. That’s a part of the game.”

Joe Burrow dealt with a calf injury throughout the preseason and to begin the 2023 campaign. This caused him to struggle in the first weeks of the season, but he looked like his former self before the latest injury. Prior to the Ravens game, Burrow had a streak of five games with at least two touchdowns while also crossing the 300+ passing yards three times during that span.

With Burrow out, the Bengals’ chances to secure a playoff spot in a crowded AFC North look slim at best. They are currently at the bottom of the division with a 5-5 record and will have to turn to backup Jake Browning for the remainder of the campaign.

The Cincinnati Bengals might be without their star quarterback Joe Burrow when they face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3. The team’s head coach, Zac Taylor, told reporters that Burrow aggravated his calf injury and might be forced to sit out the next game.

Burrow strained his calf during practice in late July and went on to miss more than five weeks of training camp. He ended up tweaking the injury late in Sunday’s 27-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and it is “hard to say” whether he will make the field against the Rams, according to Taylor.

Speaking with the media, Burrow himself said he needs some time to see how his calf feels before being able to determine whether he’s ready to get back into action.

“We’re gonna have to wait and see,” said Burrow. “I’m not sure how it’s gonna feel the next couple days. It’s pretty sore right now, but no telling how it’s gonna feel. So I think we’re gonna take it day by day.”

Burrow has had a slow start to the season, throwing for just 82 yards in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. He bounced back a bit in Week 2, completing 27 out of 41 passes attempted for 222 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

If Burrow isn’t good to go in Week 3, the Bengals will be forced to turn to backup Jake Browning. Browning, who entered the league in 2019, has only attempted one pass during the NFL regular season in his career.

The Cincinnati Bengals finally managed to get their star quarterback Joe Burrow to sign a long-term extension. However, they needed the richest contract in NFL history to pull it off.

According to multiple reports, Burrow accepted a five-year, $275 million extension with the Bengals earlier this week. The deal comes with $219.01 million and an average annual salary of $55 million, which makes him the highest-paid player in the league.

The Bengals are yet to officially confirm the deal but have been leaving hints on their social media profiles lately.

Burrow is credited for transforming the Bengals into Super Bowl contenders since being selected first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. After a knee injury cut his rookie season short, Burrow won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award and led Cincinnati to a Super Bowl appearance in 2021. He then earned his first Pro Bowl nod last season with a campaign that included 4,475 throwing yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 picks.

Burrow is the latest young quarterback to get a market-changing new contract. Earlier in the offseason, Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts, Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert, and Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson all signed long-term deals with their respective franchises.

Getting a new deal with Burrow sorted out was the most important piece of business for the Bengals this offseason. They will now likely focus on trying to get an extension done with wideout Tee Higgins, who is set to enter the final year of his rookie deal.

Cincinnati Bengals second-year quarterback Joe Burrow will want to forget Week 2 of the 2021 NFL season as soon as possible. After having 200 passes without a pick, the longest active streak in the NFL, Burrow threw three interceptions on three straight attempts in his team’s 17-20 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Burrow had his first turnover early in the fourth quarter. With his team trailing 3-10, the LSU product faced 3rd & 3 on Chicago’s 48-yard line. He threw a shorthanded pass to Tyler Boyd, but the Bears’ linebacker Roquan Smith intercepted it and returned the ball to the Bengals’ end zone.

On the next possession, the Bengals gave the ball to Joe Mixon, who managed to get them only four yards. Facing 2nd & 6 on his own 29 yards, Burrow tried to find Tee Higgins on the left side. However, Chicago’s corner Jaylon Johnson beat Higgins and got another interception for his team.

The Bears didn’t use this turnover and had to punt the ball. However, Burrow immediately gave it back. The 2020’s first overall pick had his pass tipped by Alec Ogletree and picked up by Angelo Blackson, who managed to return it to the Bengals’ 9-yard line before being tackled.

Joe Burrow managed to redeem himself later in the fourth, throwing for two touchdowns that included a 42-yard bomb to Ja’Marr Chase. Still, there was no time for the Bengals to do more and avoid a defeat.

The Cincinnati Bengals rookie quarterback and No. 1 pick in the 2020 draft, Joe Burrow, went down with a serious knee injury in the team’s game against the Washington Football Team.

The Bengals have confirmed that Burrow suffered an ACL tear in his left knee and will be out for the rest of the season. It’s terrible news for the Bengals and Burrow, who was a front-runner for the Rookie of the Year award before going down in the Bengals 20-9 loss on Sunday.

The Bengals are far from a playoff contender, but their quarterback of the future could have really used another six games to gain valuable experience in his rookie season, which didn’t include any offseason work with the team because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The injury occurred in the early stages of the third quarter. Burrow dropped back to pass and a Washington defender fell into his leg after Burrow released the ball. Burrow immediately grabbed his left leg and was in visible pain. He was then carted off the field.

Entering the game to replace Burrow was Ryan Finley, who will presumably be the Bengals starting quarterback for the rest of the 2020 season.

Cincinnati Bengals were one play away from claiming an upset win against LA Chargers on Sunday, but that wasn’t enough for their rookie quarterback Joe Burrow to give himself a passing grade.

Speaking with media after the 13-16 loss, Burrow, who was this year’s No. 1 overall pick, said that his outing deserved a “D” grade and that he made too many mistakes.

“At the end of the day, I made too many mistakes for us to win the game, and we didn’t make enough plays,” said Burrow.

While Burrow tried to find his comfort for the major part of the game, the LSU product did manage to put together an impressive drive late in the fourth. Down three points, the Bengals marched down the field and had a chance to score a touchdown to win it all with less than 10 seconds left on the clock.

However, a pass interference call on wideout AJ Green forced Cincinnati to settle for a field goal that would tie the game. Unfortunately for the Bengals, it didn’t even come to that, as Randy Bullock ended up missing the 31-yarder.

Joe Burrow’s first NFL game finished with him passing for 193 yards, rushing for a touchdown, and throwing one interception. He will get an opportunity to improve the impression soon, as the Bengals meet Cleveland Browns on Thursday night football.

Cincinnati Bengals’ rookie quarterback Joe Burrow found a way to impress his head coach Zac Taylor without even having his first NFL practice. In a recent chat with Sports Illustrated, Taylor praised Burrow’s effort during the virtual workouts and said that LSU’s product is “as advertised.”

Bengals took Burrow with the No.1 overall pick in 2020 NFL Draft back in April, but the 23-year-old Heisman Trophy winner wasn’t able to go through usual offseason activities with the team due to coronavirus pandemic. It appears, however, that there was some benefit in missing OTAs and rookie camp, as he was able to show off his other qualities.

“He’s been great,” Taylor told SI’s Albert Breer. “As advertised is the best way to put it. You can tell he spends a lot of time on his own being prepared with questions, and he’s doing a great job taking ownership, which is important for a quarterback to do, and he’s doing everything he can to own this offense. Been really impressed with him, but not surprised.”

Burrow should soon be able to present his physical skills to Taylor as well, considering that the NFL teams started reopening their practice facilities after the previous lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic. The Bengals are expected to officially start their training camp on July 22nd for rookies and on July 27th for veterans.

Despite being a rookie, Joe Burrow is expected to be Cincinnati’s undisputed starter in 2020. Burrow is coming off a historical year with LSU in which he threw for 5,671 yards and NCAA-record 60 touchdowns while leading the Tigers to the national championship.

Clemson entered the CFP national championship game against Louisiana State University on the longest winning streak in the nation, having won 29 games in past 741 days. However, this streak ended unceremoniously on Monday night with LSU claiming an impressive 42-25 win.

Clemson opened the game strong, scoring a touchdown on their first possession and then claiming 17-7 lead in the early second quarter. But LSU, fueled by their Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Joe Burrow, didn’t intend to give up without a fight. They rallied to score 20 unanswered points by halftime and managed to safely navigate to the program’s fourth national title.

LSU, however, couldn’t really relax until the very end of the fourth quarter. Clemson had a shot to cut into Louisiana’s lead with 10 minutes left in the contest, but Tee Higgins’ touchdown was voided due to offensive pass interference. Clemson tried to get back into the game once again, but their QB Trevor Lawrence fumbled the ball with four minutes left and allowed the LSU to run out the clock.

LSU’s win was highlighted by Burrow’s electric performance, who threw for 463 yards and four touchdowns while also running for one. The four passing TDs allowed him to set a single-season record for most touchdown passes in a single season with 60.

“You know, I think what we did tonight can’t be taken away from us,” said Burrow after the game. “I don’t know about the whole hero thing, but I know this national championship will be remembered for a long time in Louisiana. To do it in New Orleans is even more special. This is going to be remembered for a long time.”

After writing his name in college football and LSU history books, Burrow turns to NFL. He will enter the 2020 NFL Draft, where he is expected to be the first overall pick.
