Cincinnati Bengals’ rookie quarterback Joe Burrow found a way to impress his head coach Zac Taylor without even having his first NFL practice. In a recent chat with Sports Illustrated, Taylor praised Burrow’s effort during the virtual workouts and said that LSU’s product is “as advertised.”

Bengals took Burrow with the No.1 overall pick in 2020 NFL Draft back in April, but the 23-year-old Heisman Trophy winner wasn’t able to go through usual offseason activities with the team due to coronavirus pandemic. It appears, however, that there was some benefit in missing OTAs and rookie camp, as he was able to show off his other qualities.

“He’s been great,” Taylor told SI’s Albert Breer. “As advertised is the best way to put it. You can tell he spends a lot of time on his own being prepared with questions, and he’s doing a great job taking ownership, which is important for a quarterback to do, and he’s doing everything he can to own this offense. Been really impressed with him, but not surprised.”

Burrow should soon be able to present his physical skills to Taylor as well, considering that the NFL teams started reopening their practice facilities after the previous lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic. The Bengals are expected to officially start their training camp on July 22nd for rookies and on July 27th for veterans.

Despite being a rookie, Joe Burrow is expected to be Cincinnati’s undisputed starter in 2020. Burrow is coming off a historical year with LSU in which he threw for 5,671 yards and NCAA-record 60 touchdowns while leading the Tigers to the national championship.
