The Baltimore Ravens are set to rest star quarterback Lamar Jackson in their final regular-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, Ravens coach John Harbaugh confirmed on Wednesday. This will provide Jackson with a 19-day break ahead of the Ravens’ AFC divisional round tie.

“It’s really not any one thing that goes into it,” Harbaugh said of his decision to rest Jackson. “Just all things considered, it seemed to be the right thing to do. We had conversations with Lamar and others and made the decision.” With the Ravens already qualified for the playoffs, Saturday’s game has no ramifications for the team from Maryland.

Jackson revealed that he and Harbaugh discussed his omission from Saturday’s game, adding that “I feel like it was best to sit me.” In the NFL Most Valuable Player’s stead, Tyler Huntley will start against the Steelers. For the Steelers, a win on Saturday is crucial if they hope to have an outside chance of clinching a playoff berth.

Following a month of speculation surrounding Lamar Jackson’s future, the quarterback agreed to remain with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens announced on Thursday that Jackson agreed to a new five-year deal with the team.

Worth $260 million, this is the most expensive contract in the history of the Ravens. He will also become the most highly-paid player in the league with earnings of $52 million per year, including $185 million in guaranteed money.

“For the last few months, there has been a lot of he said, she said,” Jackson stated in a video posted on the Ravens’ official Twitter account. “A lot of nail-biting. A lot of head-scratching going on. But for the next five years, it’s a lot of ‘flock’ going on.”

Jackson spoke in reference to the rumors regarding his demands that circulated in the media. It was previously reported that the quarterback would demand $230 million in guaranteed money that Deshaun Watson received from the Cleveland Browns last year.

New Baltimore Ravens’ wideout Odell Beckham Jr. would like to see star quarterback Lamar Jackson feeding him the ball this upcoming season. Still, Beckham reiterated that he didn’t “get any assurances” this would be the case before signing with the team.

Speaking at his first press conference as a Raven earlier this week, Beckham addressed the rumors that the Ravens managed to lure him by telling him Jackson will be with the team in 2023.

“Didn’t get any assurances for anything, you know life’s uncertain,” Beckham told reporters. “I think that we don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, or the next day. We only know what’s happened in the past.”

However, Beckham did use the opportunity to send a message to Jackson.

“Lamar, if you’re watching, I would love to get to work with you,” the three-time Pro Bowler said.

Lamar Jackson’s future in Baltimore is uncertain, considering that the former NFL MVP publicly stated he wants to leave the team after two sides failed to agree to a contract extension. The Ravens placed a non-franchise tag on Jackson earlier this offseason, allowing the player to negotiate with other teams. If he signs a contract offer, the Ravens can match it or let him walk in exchange for two first-round picks.

Jackson also has the option to play under the tag in 2023 before hitting free agency next year or to sit out the season.

The Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is eager to sign a new deal with the team, Ravens defensive end Calais Campbell claimed. This comes after Baltimore general manager Eric DeCosta remarked that “it takes two to tango” when being asked about the chances of securing a deal with the quarterback.

“He wants to get a deal done, and that’s the most important part,” Campbell told NFL Network. “Sometimes guys who are part of a team and don’t want to be there anymore use [free agency] as an opportunity to go elsewhere. But he wants to be [with the Ravens].”

Negotiations between Jackson and the Ravens began 25 months ago, however, little progress has been made since with regard to closing a deal. Now, the situation appears more urgent, with the Ravens needing to secure a deal by Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET in order to prevent Jackson from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Jackson has declined to speak publicly about his contract since the start of the 2022 season, refusing to chat with reporters altogether since enduring his season-ending injury in early December.

The contract negotiations between the Baltimore Ravens and their quarterback Lamar Jackson have turned into a real standoff. While both sides claim they want to get a long-term deal done, multiple reporters indicate that they are nowhere near it.

The Ravens’ general manager Eric DeCosta once again said the right things during his recent chat with the reporters at the NFL scouting combine.

“We want Lamar here,” DeCosta said when asked about his signal-caller.

If the two sides don’t manage to strike a deal soon, the Ravens are expected to place a franchise tag on Jackson in order to ensure they don’t lose him for nothing. However, DeCosta said that the organization hopes this won’t be necessary.

“We’re hopeful to get a deal done with Lamar before that happens,” DeCosta said. “But sure, they’re big numbers. We’ve known they’re big numbers. We’re prepared for that.

It was previously reported that the main issue in negotiations between the Ravens and Jackson is the player’s request to have his entire contract guaranteed. Baltimore is standing firm that this won’t happen, although it is reportedly willing to make Jackson the highest-paid player in the league in average salary.

Since being taken with the final pick of the first round in 2018, Jackson established himself as arguably the best dual-threat quarterback in the history of the league. He made two Pro Bowls, won the MVP honors in 2019, and led the Ravens to playoffs in four out of his five seasons.

The Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson revealed on Thursday that he will not be available for his team’s wild-card game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night.

Jackson indicated in a Twitter post that his injury concern with his left knee appears to be more serious than what he originally believed, having suffered a PCL grade 2 sprain on the borderline of a strain 3.

“There is still inflammation surrounding my knee and my knee remains unstable,” Jackson’s post read. “I wish I could be out there with my guys more than anything, but I can’t give a 100% of myself to my guys and fans. I’m still hopeful we have a chance.”

Jackson sprained his left knee on December 4. While initially described as a “day to day” injury, the quarterback has not returned to the field since and was walking with a limp until last week.

Currently finishing his fifth year of his rookie contract, Jackson is due to become an unrestricted free agent if the team does not either reach an extension with him by March or use a franchise tag.

Injured Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson may still make a return to action during the postseason, offensive coordinator Greg Roman claimed. The player has been sidelined for over a month with a sprained knee.

“He’s a special guy,” Roman said of Jackson following Thursday’s team practice. “I think if somebody’s got a chance to do it, he does.”

Jackson injured his knee on December 4 and has been unable to return to the field ever since. He has missed 14 consecutive training sessions since his injury.

Without Jackson at the helm, the Ravens have dropped in form, averaging 12.3 points per game in his absence while scoring just three touchdowns—the worst in the league.

Fortunately for the team, they were able to qualify for the playoffs with a 17-9 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. They have struggled to remain consistent, however, losing two of their last four games, including a 16-13 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night.

Since Jackson incurred his injury, the Ravens have been unable to provide a definite timeline for his recovery. When asked about the player’s potential return this season, coach John Harbaugh offered other insight except to say that he expects the player to return at some point during the postseason.

The Baltimore Ravens may be without star quarterback Lamar Jackson over the next two games, league sources reported on Sunday. This comes as the player is reportedly battling a knee injury.

Jackson has been officially listed as doubtful by the Ravens as he recovers from a sprained PCL; an injury which is typically expected to have a one to three-week recovery time.

In addition to Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the starting quarterback is also expected to miss next week’s game against the Cleveland Brown. Should he be rested during his recovery, the earliest that Jackson would be expected to return to the field would be Baltimore’s game on Christmas Eve against the Atlanta Falcons.

Along with Jackson, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott also incurred a PCL injury last season. Upon deciding to play through his injury, Elliot’s performance dropped notably. Cowboys teammate Dalton Schultz also incurred a PCL injury earlier this season, with his performance also dipping as a result. New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson missed four games earlier this season due to the same injury.

Ahead of Sunday’s game against the Steelers, the Ravens find themselves on top of the AFC North with an 8-4 record.

Lamar Jackson has turned down the Baltimore Ravens’ offer for a contract extension, the team announced on Friday morning. This comes after the Ravens and Jackson were unable to agree on a new deal by the time of the quarterback’s self-imposed deadline.

“Despite best efforts on both sides, we were unable to reach a contract extension with Lamar Jackson,” General Manager Eric DeCosta stated. “We greatly appreciate how he has handled this process and we are excited about our team with Lamar leading the way.” De Costa added that the Ravens will remain focused on the 2022 season and how Jackson can continue to provide value.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh remains confident that an agreement will ultimately be reached with Jackson and that the quarterback will play for the Ravens for a long time. He praised Jackson’s professionalism and commitment to the team.

Jackson, who is one of the only players in the NFL to represent himself, will make $23.016 million in his fifth-year option on his existing contract. He does not, however, have any income guaranteed for the following season.

The Baltimore Ravens quarterback situation is turning from bad to worse. After having to put star signal-caller Lamar Jackson on the COVID-19/Reserve list, the Ravens have now also lost their backup quarterback, Robert Griffin III.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Friday that the Ravens placed Griffin on the Injured Reserve list, ruling him out for at least three weeks. This move came after the veteran injured his hamstring in Wednesday’s 19-14 loss to division rivals Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ravens are now left with third-stringer Trace McSorley, who has only 10 career snaps in the NFL, as the only active quarterback on their roster. McSorley replaced Griffin against the Steelers, completing two passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. He also added 16 rushing yards from three attempts.

The Ravens now hope that Jackson can get cleared in time to suit up for next week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. The 23-year-old tested positive for COVID-19 on Thanksgiving and will soon complete the mandatory 10-day quarantine.

If Jackson gets multiple negative tests after the quarantine, he’ll be able to face the Cowboys. If not, it will be up to McSorley to take responsibility.

“He’s feeling well,” Ravens left tackle Orlando Brown told the media on Friday. “He wants to be out there playing. I know Lamar is looking forward to getting out there.”

Ravens are in danger of not making the postseason, due to their three-game losing streak. This caused them to fell to a 6-5 record and third place in AFC North. Nevertheless, the battle for a playoff bid looks to be a close one.
