The post Rams’ Aaron Donald, 3-Time NFL DPOY, Announced His Retirement appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Donald shared the news on his social media, posting a statement and a short video recapping his time in the NFL.
“For 10 years, I have been fortunate to play the game of football at the highest level. I’m thankful for the people I’ve met along the way, the relationships I’ve built and the things I’ve accomplished with my teammates and individually,” Donald said in the statement while adding that he is “excited about the off the field possibilities.”
The news about Donald’s retirement doesn’t come as a surprise, even though he is only 32. He already contemplated retirement after helping the Rams win Super Bowl LVI. At the time, he was talked out of retirement with an improved contract that saw him become the first non-quarterback to earn more than $30 million annually.
This time, however, it appears that Donald has firmly made up his mind and is saying goodbye to football for good despite coming off a productive 2023 season that saw him make 53 tackles, 8.0 sacks, and three pass deflections en route to his 10th consecutive Pro Bowl appearance.
Aaron Donald entered the league as the Rams’ 14th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. In the following decade, he established himself as one of the greatest defensive players of all time. He made the First-team All-Pro eight times, which is second-most by a player in his first 10 seasons in the history of the NFL.
Donald retires with 111.0 sacks in 154 games as a pro, which puts him at the top of the Rams’ all-time list. Over the course of his career, he also made 543 tackles, 260 QB hits, and 24 forced fumbles.

]]>After signing an extension in 2022, McVay’s current contract runs through 2026. Arriving at the team in 2017, McVay guided them to victory at Super Bowl LVI. The coach has a 69-45 regular-season record and a 7-3 postseason record. Currently, McVay is tied with Chuck Knox (69-48-1) for second place in the Rams’ career regular-season wins list, with John Robinson leading the pack at 75 regular-season wins.
With the regular season record in sight and the Rams headed to the playoffs, McVay confirmed his decision to stay on. “That I can promise you” he confirmed, leaving no doubt as to his intentions heading into 2024. The Rams have clinched second place in the NFC West at 9-7, narrowly beating out the Seattle Seahawks (8-8).

]]>Nacua had 10 receptions in the Week 1 win against the Seattle Seahawks and then added 15 more in a 23-30 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The BYU product’s 25 catches broke the record held by 49ers’ wideout Earl Cooper, who had 19 receptions throughout his first two games in the 1980 season.
Nacua also became the first player to get 10+ receptions and 100+ receiving yards in each of his first two games as a pro. He got 119 receiving yards in Week 1 and then had 147 receiving yards in Week 2.
“I’m not really aware of kind of what’s going on,” Nacua said after the game. “But my success will come when the team wins, so I’m excited for us to be able to come back and capitalize when we are able to win. So it was sweet last week. I got things to improve on, so it’s cool and all, but the most important thing is getting that W.”
Puka Nacua was expected to be a rotational wideout for the Rams this season at best. However, after the team’s star wide receiver Cooper Kupp went down with an injury, Nacua was trusted with a bigger role on the offense to start the 2023 campaign and appears to be using that opportunity to its fullest.

]]>The post Rams’ Star WR Cooper Kupp Suffers Hamstring Injury, Will Be Out for “Few Weeks” appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Kupp suffered the injury after he “came up a little bit in a red zone route,” according to Rams’ head coach Sean McVay. The 30-year-old player underwent an MRI shortly after.
“Obviously, we’re much better when he’s here, and we hope he’s going to be OK,” McVay told reporters on Tuesday. “If he’s not, we’ll see what happens, but the practice had to go on.”
McVay didn’t want to go into the specifics about the possible timeline for Kupp’s return, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the organization intends to be “caution” with their best offensive player. The expectation is that he will be back for scrimmages in a few weeks.
If Schefter’s sources are correct, Kupp would have plenty of time to return to game action before the 2023 NFL season officially kicks off. The Rams play their Week 1 game on September 10 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Cooper Kupp was a key contributor to Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl run in 2021. He finished the regular season leading the league in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and receiving touchdowns (16) while adding 33 catches for 478 yards and six TDs in the postseason.
Kupp’s 2022 campaign was a lot less successful, as he ended up playing only nine games before having to undergo season-ending ankle surgery. The Rams, on the other hand, finished with a 5-12 record and missed the playoffs.

]]>Michel previously played for the Rams during the 2021 NFL season and had a significant role in their road to the Super Bowl LVI win.
After leaving the Rams last offseason, Michel spent a brief time with the Miami Dolphins before landing with the Los Angeles Chargers. The 28-year-old player had a limited role with the other LA team, getting only 36 carries in 10 games and managing 106 rushing yards.
Michel will likely compete for one of the backup spots behind starter Cam Akers in training camp. He is going up against sophomore back Kyren Williams, 2023 sixth-round selection Zach Evans and undrafted free agent signing Ronnie Rivers.
Sony Michel started his professional career as a first-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2018. He emerged as the Pats’ starter midway through the season and went on to have an outstanding campaign that included helping the team to Super Bowl LIII win. Michel had six rushing touchdowns during the postseason, setting the NFL record for a rookie.
Michel’s NFL career stats include 3,243 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. He also has 56 catches for 439 yards and two TDs.

]]>The post Rams Trading Star Corner Jalen Ramsey to Dolphins appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>The Dolphins are reportedly sending the No. 77 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft and tight end Hunter Long to the Rams in exchange for Ramsay. Long is a former third-round pick who played 16 games in NFL and has one catch on his resume.
Ramsay himself already confirmed the trade in a series of social media posts, including a “love you & thank you” for the LA Rams and the LA Rams’ fans.
The Rams have been looking to move Ramsey for a while now despite the fact that he is considered one of the best cornerbacks in the league. They will get a badly needed salary cap relief with his contract off the books while also not having to pay the remainder of his five-year, $100 million contract.
The Dolphins happily agreed to be the team that pays Ramsey’s salary, guaranteeing the next two years of the contract as part of the trade. With the 28-year-old in the building, they now have one of the most intimidating secondaries in the game that also boosts another All-Pro cornerback in Xavien Howard.
The Los Angeles Rams landed Jalen Ramsey in a blockbuster trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 that saw them surrender two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder. The trade paid off big time for the Rams, as Ramsey was one of the key players in their Super Bowl-winning run in 2021.

]]>The post LA Rams Give Wideout Allen Robinson Permission to Seek a Trade appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Robinson has a $15.25 million guaranteed salary for next season, which might narrow his market considering the down year he had in 2022. However, the Rams seem to be ready to take on a portion of the money in order to make the trade more palatable for interested teams.
Robinson had a number of suitors in free agency ahead of the 2022 campaign and was reportedly close to joining the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the Rams’ head coach Sean McVay managed to convince the Pro Bowler to come to LA and be part of the reigning Super Bowl champions. The player ended up inking a three-year, $46.5 million contract with the franchise.
While the move looked great at the time, 2022 ended up being a disappointment for both sides. Marred by injuries and questionable roster depth, the Rams imploded and finished the season with a 5-12 record. Robinson, on the other hand, struggled with inconsistency and managed only 33 catches for 339 yards and three touchdowns. He also missed time with injuries.
Allen Robinson has been a productive player for the better part of his career, so there is no doubt that WR-needy teams will be excited about the opportunity to add him to their roster. Still, they might not be willing to give up much for him at this point, considering his subpar play in recent years.

]]>Reportedly, the two sides met earlier this week to discuss Wagner’s future with the franchise. The conclusion was that parting ways was beneficial for both parties considering that the Rams face a tough salary cap situation and a possible rebuild.
Wagner joined the Rams on a five-year, $50 million deal last offseason but only $20 million of that money was guaranteed. Ripping up that contract after just one year will save the LA team around $5 million is salary while allowing the player to become a free agent and join a team that gives him the best chance of winning another Super Bowl ring.
With the Rams struggling on both sides of the ball in 2022, Wagner was one of the team’s rare spots. He had a career-high 6.0 sacks to go with 140 tackles, two interceptions and five pass deflection, earning the All-Pro honors for the ninth time in his career.
Before joining the Rams, Bobby Wagner spent his first 10 seasons in the league with the Seattle Seahawks. He was part of the Seahawks’ famed defense known as Legion of Boom and helped the franchise win a Super Bowl in 2013. Wagner also earned eight Pro Bowl nods while in Seattle and was selected in NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.

]]>Stafford addressed this widely-debated question during an interview on “The Morning After” podcast which is hosted by his wife, Kelly.
Rams head coach Sean McVay reaffirmed his belief that Stafford will make a full recovery, stating, “He’ll be good. To my knowledge, there’s nothing like that that’s going to be required or necessary. And it will be great for Matthew to have a healthy offseason and do a lot of the things that I think he’ll feel good about being able to do.”
The 34-year-old player injured his neck during the Rams’ Week 11 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Stafford was forced to leave the game early due to the medical staff’s concerns that he may have suffered a concussion.
Stafford confirmed that he felt numbness in his legs after taking the injury-inducing hit and entered concussion protocol. After clearing concussion protocol, he was placed on injured reserve on December 3.
