The Los Angeles Rams added a familiar face to their roster this week. Veteran running back Sony Michel inked a one-year deal with the team, returning for his second stint with the franchise.

Michel previously played for the Rams during the 2021 NFL season and had a significant role in their road to the Super Bowl LVI win.

After leaving the Rams last offseason, Michel spent a brief time with the Miami Dolphins before landing with the Los Angeles Chargers. The 28-year-old player had a limited role with the other LA team, getting only 36 carries in 10 games and managing 106 rushing yards.

Michel will likely compete for one of the backup spots behind starter Cam Akers in training camp. He is going up against sophomore back Kyren Williams, 2023 sixth-round selection Zach Evans and undrafted free agent signing Ronnie Rivers.

Sony Michel started his professional career as a first-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2018. He emerged as the Pats’ starter midway through the season and went on to have an outstanding campaign that included helping the team to Super Bowl LIII win. Michel had six rushing touchdowns during the postseason, setting the NFL record for a rookie.

Michel’s NFL career stats include 3,243 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. He also has 56 catches for 439 yards and two TDs.
