It appears that the Los Angeles Rams found a new star wide receiver in rookie Puka Nacua. This year’s fifth-round pick has started his NFL career in a historic fashion, breaking the record for most receptions throughout the first two career games.

Nacua had 10 receptions in the Week 1 win against the Seattle Seahawks and then added 15 more in a 23-30 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The BYU product’s 25 catches broke the record held by 49ers’ wideout Earl Cooper, who had 19 receptions throughout his first two games in the 1980 season.

Nacua also became the first player to get 10+ receptions and 100+ receiving yards in each of his first two games as a pro. He got 119 receiving yards in Week 1 and then had 147 receiving yards in Week 2.

“I’m not really aware of kind of what’s going on,” Nacua said after the game. “But my success will come when the team wins, so I’m excited for us to be able to come back and capitalize when we are able to win. So it was sweet last week. I got things to improve on, so it’s cool and all, but the most important thing is getting that W.”

Puka Nacua was expected to be a rotational wideout for the Rams this season at best. However, after the team’s star wide receiver Cooper Kupp went down with an injury, Nacua was trusted with a bigger role on the offense to start the 2023 campaign and appears to be using that opportunity to its fullest.
