]]>Hockenson’s injury came during the Vikings’ 30-24 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. During the Vikings’ second offensive play of the third quarter, Hockenson was knocked in the knee by Lions safety Kerby Joseph while leaping to grab a pass. He immediately made his way to the sideline, where he remained for the rest of the game.
“It was a very, very unfortunate play,” O’Connell remarked following the game. “We’ve done a nice job [in the NFL] of helping take out some of those head and neck area hits to the defenseless players, [but] some of those low hits can be incredibly catastrophic for guys. It was awful to see that happen.” This injury has rained on Hockenson’s parade in what has been an emphatic first full season with the Vikings. He ranks second in the NFL in catches by tight ends (95) and third overall in receiving yards (960).

]]>The post NFL Approves Helmet Designed to Protect Against Quarterback Concussions appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Manufactured by Vicis, the helmet is designed to minimize the effects of helmet-to-ground impacts. These types of contact account for approximately 50% of all concussions suffered by quarterbacks, including that incurred by the Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa last season when his head was slammed into the turf during a Thursday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
“We’ve now analyzed with our engineers and with the players’ association more than a thousand concussions on field, we have a pretty good database of how these injuries occur,” NFL executive Jeff Miller said of the helmet-to-ground impacts. “This helmet performs better in laboratory testing than any helmets we have ever seen for those sorts of impacts.”
Vicis began designing the Zero2 Matrix QB helmet in early 2022. The helmet performed 7% better in tests than the most popular helmet worn by quarterbacks last season, the NFL revealed in a memo sent to executives on Thursday.

]]>After being injured in the Chargers’ regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos, Williams has undergone an X-ray and an MRI scan, both of which produced negative results. After experiencing a lack of progress over the coming days, Williams underwent an additional MRI, whereupon he received a fracture diagnosis.
Williams has a history of back issues, having missed the first five games of his rookie season in 2017 due to a back injury.
Facing criticism, Chargers coach Brandon Staley defended his decision to play his starters against the Broncos, explaining, “It’s difficult to decide who plays and who doesn’t and who is more valuable than the rest. What you are trying to do is set a standard for your program about how you do things. That is what I believe in, and I didn’t want anybody to get hurt in [the game], regardless of their status, because everybody is important.”

]]>Young tore his right ACL and ruptured the patellar tendon in the same knee on November 14, 2021, during the Commanders’ game against the Tampa Bay Buccanneers last season. According to a medical assessment of the injury, the ruptured tendon lengthened Young’s recovery time.
Eager to gradually reintroduce him to the game, the Commanders scheduled a consultation for Young with Dr. James Andrews who performed his surgery. According to the doctor, Young is in a position to return to action.
“Seeing Dr. Andrews was the final thing to get him over the hump,” Commanders coach Ron Rivera commented. “He practiced with confidence. He showed us his willingness to stick that leg in the ground and roll off of it, plant it and cut off it. He had a good week so we’re pretty excited about that.”
Now cleared for action, Young is expected to participate in a limited role in Saturday’s game.

]]>According to Carroll, the injury is a spiral crack and is similar to that of running back Rashaad Penny in 2018. As a result, he believes that Lockett could return in as little as two weeks if surgery is performed.
“There’s a couple different ways that they can do the surgery,” Carroll revealed. “One of the ways gives him a chance to be back. Remember Rashaad Penny … had an injury similar, very similar. So they’ve already floated that thought and they’re going to talk about all the options and all that and we’re going to love him up and take care of him. Whatever the right thing to do to take care of him, we’re going to do.”
During eight NFL seasons, Lockett has only ever missed two games; one in 2016 due to a broken leg and one in 2021 due to COVID-19.

]]>The rookie wide receiver tore the ACL in his right knee during the Giants’ 31-18 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. In the first play of the fourth quarter, Robinson’s knee buckled as he got tackled, leading to his injury.
Robinson’s absence is a significant blow to the Giants, as the team’s defense is now being spread thin without the rookie’s presence.
“We know how explosive [Robinson] can be,” running back Saquon Barkley commented. “Not having him out there is definitely going to be a loss, but it’s going to give other guys opportunities and we have all the confidence in all the other guys too to step in and make plays.”
With his rookie season coming to a premature end, Robinson’s figures stand at 23 catches for 227 yards and a touchdown in six games.
Richie James is expected to step in for Robinson during the rookie’s absence. James also filled in at wide receiver when Robinson missed four games with a sprained right MCL earlier this season.

]]>Typically, the surgery that Kupp has elected to undergo comes with a recovery time of five to six weeks, however, the exact amount of time of Kupp’s absence is yet to be determined.
Kupp’s decision to undergo surgery comes after the wide receiver suffered a high ankle sprain during the Rams’ loss to the Arizona Cardinals during Week 10. The injury came as Kupp attempted to catch a pass from quarterback John Wolford, after which he grabbed at his ankle and was escorted to the bench by the Rams’ medical team.
“I think what we’ve learned more than anything, especially this year, is let’s just take it a day at a time,” McVay said, adding that he will do his best to leverage the skills of other players in an attempt to compensate for Kupp’s absence.
Los Angeles has relied heavily on Kupp’s skill this season, with the wide receiver making 35.7% of the Rams’ catches this season.

]]>Pro Bowl defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr. remains on the sidelines as he looks to recover from a concussion suffered in Week 7 during the 21-3 loss at the hand of the Carolina Panthers. Winfield Jr. returned to practice this week in a limited capacity and is not yet back to full fitness.
Tight end Cam Brate is still recovering from a Week 6 neck sprain incurred during the narrow 18-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers; an injury that saw him stretchers off the field.
Joining them on the sidelines is starting left guard Luke Goedeke, who remains unavailable since suffering a Week 7-foot injury. In addition to the three injured starters, backup wide receiver Russell Gage continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury.
On the upside, the Bucs welcome back several key players from injury. Starting defensive lineman Akiem Hicks will be making his return after suffering a foot injury in Week 2 while top cornerback Carlton Davis III is participating fully in training after aggravating a hip injury in Week 6.
Winless since October 9, the Bucs will be looking to improve on their 3-5 start to the season on Saturday.

]]>While the player sat out of five games before marking his return in the Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Allen remains adamant that he did not strain his injury during the game. Furthermore, he stated that he “felt great” on the field despite only playing the first half.
“I don’t think it was a restrain or anything,” Allen said of his injury. “It is just some more scar tissue that is trying to break off and whenever it is ready to heal, just got to let it do its own thing.” Allen was absent from team training on both Monday and Wednesday.
Should Allen be unavailable for the Falcons game on Saturday, the team will be without its top three receivers. Mike Williams is struggling with a right high ankle sprain while wide receiver Joshua Palmer will not return to action yet despite clearing concussion protocol.

]]>According to coach Mike McCarthy, Elliot could have a slim chance of playing on the weekend if he manages to remain on track with his recovery process. “I mean he’s doing a lot better than we anticipated. But if he practices tomorrow, then he’d have a chance of playing.”
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones added that although Elliot would most likely not play in Sunday’s game, he could possibly return considering the team’s bye next week. “I’m not so sure we’d have done it this way had we not had the bye,” Jones stated, adding that, “we’ll see how he is responding as the week goes along, but if we don’t use him, this is just too great of a time to get him in top shape.”
Should Elliot not play, Tony Pollard is likely to take over his running back duties with Malik Davis and Qadree Ollison receiving callups from the practice squad as reserves.
