The Portland Trail Blazers will continue playing without their rookie Scoot Henderson a while longer. The team issued an update on Henderson on Sunday, announcing that the third-overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft is dealing with an ankle injury and is expected to be out for two to three weeks.

Henderson hurt his ankle on November 1st in a 101-110 win over the Detroit Pistons. He exited the game in the third quarter and didn’t return to the floor. The 19-year-old player hasn’t played since.

It was first believed that Henderson had an ankle sprain. But according to Portland, an MRI test on his ankle also revealed additional bone bruising, which is why he’ll miss more time than initially expected.

The Blazers can afford themselves to be more cautious with Henderson, considering they are going through a rebuild after superstar Damian Lillard left the franchise this offseason. They are currently 12th in the Western Conference and are on a three-game losing streak.

Scoot Henderson is widely viewed as the future franchise cornerstone for the Blazers. However, his transition to the NBA hasn’t been ideal so far. In five games he played as a pro, Henderson averaged 8.8 points while shooting dreadful 34.6% from the floor and 9.5% from behind the three-point line.

The Portland Trail Blazers’ plans for the future are becoming a little bit clearer as the 2023 NBA Draft approaches. According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Blazers are considering making an offer for Miami Heat’s All-Star center Bam Adebayo.

The Blazers currently hold a No. 3 selection in the upcoming draft, and there were lots of speculation about what they’ll do with the pick. One option was to select one of the highly-rated prospects like Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller, while the second was to trade the pick and get a star player to pair with Damian Lillard.

The interest in Adebayo signals that the Trail Blazers will focus on the present and not the future. However, pulling off this kind of trade seems quite challenging. While the No. 3 pick and one of the Blazers’ young players like Shaedon Sharpe and Anfernee Simons would be enticing for other teams, the Heat might be unmoved by it.

Adebayo embodies “Heat culture” like a few others while also being a hard worker, an excellent defender, and a player who can have bursts on offense. Reportedly, Miami is not interested in moving Adebayo under any circumstances and instead is looking for ways to continue building on their 2023 NBA Finals appearance.

Fischer also mentions several other players that the Blazers might try to get with a package centered on the No. 3 pick. The list includes Minnesota Timberwolves Karl-Anthony Towns and LA Clippers’ Paul George.

Needing more minutes for their young players, the Detroit Pistons decided to move on from veteran center Nerlens Noel. The two sides reportedly agreed to a contract buyout which will allow Noel to sign with another team as a free agent.

The timing of the move is also important. By agreeing to a buyout this week, Noel is eligible to play in the playoffs for his new team.

Noel only played 14 games with the Pistons in 2022-23, spending less than 11 minutes on the floor on average. He had 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

There are several teams who are expected to have an interest in Noel as a free agent. The Portland Trail Blazers are mentioned as the most likely destination for the 28-year-old, considering the team’s need for a backup big. The Blazer’s starting center Jusuf Nurkic is currently out with a left calf strain, having missed nine straight games, and there is no timeline for his return yet.

Nerlens Noel started his NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers as the team’s sixth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. After two and a half seasons in Philly, he bounced around the league, suiting up for Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the New York Knicks. Noel averaged 7.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while in NBA.

The Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard made history on Sunday night, scoring 71 points to lift his team to a 131-114 victory over the Houston Rockets. Lillard achieved his career-high score while also setting a team record.

At 32 years of age, Lillard becomes the eighth player in NBA history to score 70 or more points in a single game as well as the oldest player to do so. In addition, he is the first player aged 30 or older to accomplish this feat.

“I enjoy those moments in the game when I’m just going after people,” Lillard said after the win, “when I’m in attack mode.” The point guard also scored 13 3-pointers off 22 attempts, thereby going just one shy of the NBA record set by the Golden State Warrior’s Klay Thompson in 2018.

By scoring 71 points, Lillard is tied with Elgin Baylor (1960), David Robinson (1994), and Donovan Mitchell (2023) fo the eighth-most points in a single NBA game in history. Wilt Chamberlain currently holds the record, scoring 100 points for Philadelphia against New York on March 2, 1962.

The Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard incurred a Grade 1 strain on his right calf, as was confirmed by an MRI on Thursday. Following the diagnosis, the team announced that Lillard’s injury will be evaluated after one to two weeks.

Lillard incurred the injury during the last five minutes of the third quarter of the Trail Blazers’ loss to the Miami Heat on Wednesday night. Following his injury, the Portland guard headed straight to the locker room and did not return for the remainder of the game.

Following the game, Lillard revealed that he had already felt a little tight before tipoff, however, he decided to remain on the court for the duration of the first quarter. At half-time, Lillard received treatment for his calf and put compression on it.

“It wasn’t nothing that I was overly concerned with,” Lillard remarked after the Heat game. “I just know that it wouldn’t make sense to try and push through it in the fifth game of the season.”

The player added that he would make sure to persist with daily treatment sessions and try to stretch his calf. Still, he will most likely not appear in Portland’s game against the Houston Rockets so as not to aggravate the injury or disrupt the recovery process.

Damian Lillard once again showed why he’s considered one of the most lethal three-point shooters the game has ever seen. In Game 5 of the Portland Trailblazers’ first-round matchup against the Denver Nuggets, Lillard sunk 12 three-pointers and set a new NBA playoff record.

The previous record-holder was Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson, who made 11 shots from behind the three-point arc in 2016 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Lillard finished the game with 55 points and 10 assists while making 17 out of 24 field goals attempted and going 12 of 17 from the three-pointline. Unfortunately for Portland, this magnificent outing wasn’t enough to overcome the Nuggets, who won 147-140 in two overtimes and took a 3-2 lead in the series.

After the game, Lillard received praise from Denver head coach Michael Malone, who called him superhuman.

“It was the best playoff performance I’ve ever seen,” added Blazers coach Terry Stotts.

But the 30-year-old All-Star seemed not to care all that much about his individual achievement.

“It don’t matter. We lost the game,” said Lillard after the game. “At this point, all that matters is we can’t lose another game in the series. We go out there, and we play to win the game, and we came up short.”

Lillard and the Blazers still have a chance to dig themselves out of the 3-2 hole and advance to the second round. They host the Nuggets in their Moda Center on Thursday for Game 6 and need to win in order to force the deciding Game 7.

Damian Lillard continues to prove to the NBA world why he’s one of the most dominant guards in the game. In the final seconds of the game against the Golden State Warriors, Dame Dolla sunk a clutch three-pointer to seal the victory 108-106.

To make the moment even more sweet, Lillard did it in the eye of Steph Curry himself. Curry, considered by most to be the greatest three-point shooter of all time, would be able to appreciate it of all people.

However, this was merely the end of a long night of tension and drama. The Portland Trailblazers actually started the game slowly, allowing Steph to knock down his first three three-pointers and leading Golden State to an early lead.

They were defending Lillard the entire game like there was no tomorrow, forcing other Portland players to prove themselves. How ironic, it seems, that it was Lillard who ended up sealing the victory regardless.

Even though the Warriors were guarding him like white on rice, Lillard still managed to finish the night with 22 points and six assists. Longtime NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony contributed for the Blazers with 22 points of his own.

On the Warriors’ end, Curry rained down 35 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. But his amazing performance wasn’t enough to close out Dame and his Blazers.

The NBA All-Star game is exciting for a myriad of reasons. If you’re a basketball fan, there’s nothing less thrilling than watching the very best players in the league match up against one another. However, it’s also exciting because among all of these amazing stars, there are only a handful of selections available.

This is also true for the starters. Portland Trailblazers superstar Damian Lillard is having an incredible season, and no one in their right mind would ever imagine that he wouldn’t become an All-Star. However, he wasn’t selected to be a Western Conference starter—and his team is pretty ticked off about that.

Even though Lillard is averaging 29.8 points and 7.7 assists a game, including some serious clutch bombers, he was ousted in favor of Dallas Mavericks young phenom Luka Doncic.

Even more impressive is the fact that Lillard has led the Blazers to an 18-10 record, despite injuries to their key players CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic.

Fans of Dame Dolla were hoping that this would finally be the year that he got the starting nod, but it wasn’t. The fans voted in Luka instead—but if we know anything about Dame, he’ll use this as motivation to take his game to an even higher level.

Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum has been one of the best players at his position in the league and a key part of his team’s 8-6 start, but his team is now set to miss him for the next month after he suffered a fractured bone in his left foot.

McCollum was injured in his team’s 112-106 win over the Atlanta Hawks over the weekend and did not play on Monday night in a loss to the Spurs. The team announced on Tuesday that McCollum’s injury, which was previously deemed a strain, was more serious than they originally thought.

The Ohio native has averaged at least 20 points per game over the last five seasons with Portland, and had gotten off to the hottest start of his career in the 2020-21 season. McCollum is averaging 26.7 points per game along with 5 assists and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 47% from the field.

The team is expected to re-analyze his left foot in four weeks, and if nothing goes wrong in his recovery, he should be back on the court soon after that.

Rodney Hood and Carmelo Anthony should see increased playing time until the Blazers are able to get McCollum back in the lineup.

The Sacramento Kings have signed center Hassan Whiteside to a one-year contract.

According to sources from Sacramento, he will be making the veteran’s minimum, which means that his salary for the season will be at $2.32 million.

Whiteside was traded to the Portland Trailblazers by the Miami Heat last season, where he showed that he could still be an effective big man in the league. He averaged 16.3 points, 14.2 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game last season.

Whiteside reportedly had disagreements about his playing time and role in Miami, which is what led to the Portland trade. The center looked rejuvenated, playing more minutes than usual, and clearly improving the entire unit when he was on the court.

The 31-year-old player will now be returning to Sacramento, which is the franchise that drafted him with their second-round pick in 2010. Whitehead originally spent three seasons with the Kings at the start of his career.

Whiteside is more of an old-school seven-footer, making his market in free agency fairly small. However, the Sacramento Kings should be able to use the strong, if limited, skill set Whitehead possesses, especially coming off the bench and proving solid defense around the rim.
