The Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard incurred a Grade 1 strain on his right calf, as was confirmed by an MRI on Thursday. Following the diagnosis, the team announced that Lillard’s injury will be evaluated after one to two weeks.

Lillard incurred the injury during the last five minutes of the third quarter of the Trail Blazers’ loss to the Miami Heat on Wednesday night. Following his injury, the Portland guard headed straight to the locker room and did not return for the remainder of the game.

Following the game, Lillard revealed that he had already felt a little tight before tipoff, however, he decided to remain on the court for the duration of the first quarter. At half-time, Lillard received treatment for his calf and put compression on it.

“It wasn’t nothing that I was overly concerned with,” Lillard remarked after the Heat game. “I just know that it wouldn’t make sense to try and push through it in the fifth game of the season.”

The player added that he would make sure to persist with daily treatment sessions and try to stretch his calf. Still, he will most likely not appear in Portland’s game against the Houston Rockets so as not to aggravate the injury or disrupt the recovery process.
