Manchester United defender Chris Smalling expressed his disappointment due to his loan spell at Italian club Roma coming to an end. The defender, who is now due to return to Old Trafford, is disappointed not to be included in the Serie A club’s lineup for their Europa League round of 16 clash against Spanish outfit Sevilla.

Smalling took to Twitter to share his emotions on the matter, explaining, “I’m gutted that I can’t finish what we started this season. To experience the love shown to me in such a short time was extra special and it will not be forgotten. I want to thank and wish all the players and staff the best of luck against Sevilla.”

The Red Devils’ center back impressed fans and footballers alike during his time in Italy, where he steadily became a fan favorite despite running into his fair share of challenges. In addition to a fine defensive effort, Smalling contributed three goals in his 30 league appearances.

Manchester United experienced a similar issue with winger Alexis Sanchez, who was loaned out to Inter Milan for the duration of the season, where he also impressed. Unlike Smalling, Sanchez was able to sign an extension on his loan deal in time to be included in his side’s lineup in their Europa League round of 16 clash against La Liga side Getafe.

With one week away before the start of the new Serie A season, teams are finalizing their rosters by signing new players every day. AS Roma managed to secure the loan deal for Chelsea’s right-back Davide Zappacosta for the next six months, with an option to extend the move until the end of the season. Zappacosta is not included in the plans by the new Chelsea coach Frank Lampard and has decided to spend this season in his home country.

Davide began his career in Atalanta, where he played on two occasions (2011-2012 and 2014-2015) before being sent to Avellino on loan for a year. In July of 2015, Zappacosta was sold to Torino for a total of €10 million along with Daniele Baselli.

In August of 2017, Zappacosta left Torino and signed a 4-year contract with Premier League team Chelsea for a fee of $29 million. The transfer was completed a day before the deadline period. Zappacosta made only 26 caps in 2 seasons at Stamford Bridge, losing his place in the team by fellow Italian Emerson.

He is expected to make his debut on Day 1 as Roma faces Genoa this weekend.

One of the greatest football coaches of all times, Fabio Capello, officially retired from the coaching business today.

The Italian manager said that after several decades of working it is time for him to relax and became a television analyst. “I did everything I wanted, I’m very happy with what I did, and now I am delighted to be a TV commentator. You always win in this role!” Capello said.

In his wealthy career, 71-year-old was in charge in only the top European clubs, Milan, Real Madrid, Roma, Juventus, where he won numerous trophies. Among them the Champions League with Milan, multiple national titles in Spain and Italy and cups, etc.

He also worked in the English and Russian national teams, but there he didn’t manage to produce notable results.

His latest job was in China, where he coached Jiangsu Suning, but he didn’t do well in the Far East and got sacked recently.

Immediately the rumors started, saying that Capello might be the new head coach of the Italian national team. After a disaster in these World Cup qualifications, the Italians are going to miss the most prestigious football tournament in the world, and a perfect candidate for bringing them back on the right path is exactly him.

However, Capello was decisive in his intention to retire and ruled out that possibility. “Italy’s bench? I have already said no,”

What a game in the Italian capital! We are sure that even most of the home team fans didn’t expect for Roma to eliminate the Catalonians, after 4:1 in Spain. Ernesto Valverde failed to meet the standards expected from him in this event.

Edin Dzeko brought the lead for the hosts in the 6th minute, after a magnificent assist by Daniele de Rossi. They doubled the lead in the 58th minute, when Pique made a reckless move in the box. De Rossi was calm and Ter Stegen couldn’t do anything about it. Ten minutes before the end, Manolas scored the third one, and stadion Olimpico erupted from joy. Barca tried to come back but nothing happened.

Man city’s fans had high hopes after Gabriel Jesus scored the opening goal in the second minute. Citizens netted once more, in the late part of the first half, but the referees canceled that goal, and we have to say that is was a huge mistake. There were no fouls or offside, and this is a controversial moment.

Liverpool used that and with Mo Salah and Firminho hitting the back of the net once apiece won the third straight against Guardiola’s boys.

The quarterfinals of the Champions League continues this Tuesday, and we are going to see two great games, one in Rome and the second in Manchester.

Roma and Manchester City are ahead of mission impossible tomorrow. Both teams have a three-goal deficit, the Italians against Barcelona and Citizens against Liverpool, and it is hard to say which side is in a worse position. Roma lost 4-1 in Spain, while Liverpool demolished City 3-0 at Anfield.

After that game, Guardiola’s boys received another painful blow, in a local derby against United which they lost 2-3, although leading two goals at halftime.

”We are disappointed and sad for losing to United. We have to turn the page quickly as possible because Liverpool awaits us,” said City’s defender Danilo.

Reds are fatal for City this season because they have two wins against one of the most dominant English teams in the last decade.

In the second event of the night, Barcelona is close to reaching their 11th semifinals in the Champions League. If by any chance, Roma eliminates the Spanish powerhouse, it going to be only the fourth time in history that they dropped the lead from the first match.
All the games are starting at 8:45 pm Central European Time.
