Any Manchester United fan will tell you that they would have a hard time seeing Liverpool lift the Premier League title. Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney probably feels similar, but he does think that the Reds deserve the trophy this time.

Liverpool was six points away from clinching their first national league title since 1990 this year, but coronavirus pandemic caused Premier League to suspend the 2019/20 season at least until May. There are also concerns that the entire season might be canceled due to the global health crisis, which would bring in jeopardy Liverpool’s title. If you ask Rooney, this scenario shouldn’t even be considered.

According to Rooney, the season should be completed in order to give Liverpool the title they “deserve.”

“Liverpool will win the Premier League. [They] have been fantastic,” Rooney wrote in his weekly column for The Times. “They have put so much work in. They deserve this title. Can you imagine waiting 30 years and then having it taken away like this? The right decision has been made.”

According to former England international, the season should be completed to determine the clubs that will be promoted and relegated.

“It’s also right in terms of promotion and relegation and Champions League places,” he added. “These issues are so big for the clubs involved that I imagine there would be a lot of legal fights if the season was just abandoned. The fair thing is to finish 2019-20 — even if we have to lose next season in the process.”

Coronavirus has caused almost all soccer competitions in the world to come to a halt. While the soccer federation of each country has the power to make the final decision on this season, the most likely scenario is to finish the season once the coronavirus pandemic stops being a threat.

One of the biggest stars in European soccer in the 21st century is heading back to England in a shock move.

Wayne Rooney, currently playing as a forward for Major League Soccer club DC United, has decided to return to his native England to join Championship side Derby County as a player-coach.

This means that Rooney, who has long wanted to become a manager in the professional game, will have the opportunity to manage for the first time in his career while continuing to play with the team in England’s second division. The former Manchester United striker is set to begin in January of next year after the conclusion of this MLS season.

Rooney, who joined DC United in 2018, has quickly become one of the biggest stars in the American league, already notching 25 goals and 13 assists in 46 career MLS games. He feels that he still has some magic left in his boots, and he’ll look to also contribute on the field as Derby County seek to challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

The new Derby County setup is unprecedented for a star of Rooney’s caliber, at least in recent history. His contract runs for 18 months, or to the end of the 2020-21 season.

One of the biggest stars of Major League Soccer had his best game in the United States last weekend.

Wayne Rooney, who joined DC United last year, scored a hat trick in his team’s 5-0 win against Real Salt Lake.

Rooney is one of the biggest stars to have ever played in the MLS. He spent years as a world-class player in the Premier League, playing for Everton and Manchester United.

The win propelled DC United to first place in the Eastern Conference, albeit after only three games. They have won two games and drawn one on the season.

Rooney’s performance was spectacular on Saturday was a masterclass. In addition to his three goals, he also notched an assist. He pushed his scoring total to 15 in only 23 games with DC United.

The English attacker scored his first goal in Saturday’s game on a penalty kick in the 34th minute to put his team up 1-0.

His second goal came only 6 minutes later, when he received a ball in the penalty box and chipped a cheeky goal over Salt Lake keeper Nick Rimando’s head.

The last of his three goals came thanks to a beautiful Junior Moreno assist which found Rooney at point blank range. The legendary player didn’t miss his shot at goal, putting his team up 3-0.

DC United hopes that Rooney will continue giving them performances like this one for years to come.

Wayne Rooney scored a majestic game-winning free kick in the 18th minute to help DC United beat Toronto FC 1-0 and inch closer to the playoffs Wednesday night.

The former Man United captain’s sensational goal was his tenth this season and a crucial game-winner that took his team three points closer to a playoff spot with two games remaining. DC United is clinging for a final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and leads competitors’ Montreal Impact with four points (47-43).

Scoring his sixth in five games, Rooney is on top form and shows the kind of passion his former club seems to lack.  After scoring the stunner, the 32-year-old hit the woodwork and was called offside in what would have been a hat trick for him.

DC United now rank one point behind Columbus in the Eastern Conference but would be really lucky to upsurge the Crew for a fifth spot. Columbus will face struggling sides Orlando City and Minnesota United while United will have to rely on a win over NYC FC or Chicago to seal a playoff position.

Another route will be to hope Montreal losses to neighbors Toronto this Sunday or falls to eight placed New England on the 28th. Both games are tough for seventh-placed Montreal but they have more to lose and will be hoping to seal victories in both games.

The addition of Wayne Rooney transformed D.C. United from a losing team to a roster that managed to win five out of their eight last games. In those games, Rooney was the main difference scoring three goals and three assists. But his effect might have a more significant reach.

According to Wayne Rooney, his addition and United’s great run earned them respect from the opponents.

“I think what you’re seeing now is teams respecting us a bit more,” – said Rooney after a 2-0 win against New England on Monday. “I think in previous games, New England have pressed a lot. … I think today you could see their hesitance in doing that. And leaving the space for us to get on the ball.”

Rooney also thinks that other teams will follow New England’s approach, including New York Red Bulls, who are next to face D.C. United.

“I think you’re seeing teams showing that little bit more respect to us, and Red Bulls, I’m sure they’ll have more to think about than what they did last time,” – the 32-year-old said referring to Red Bulls’ previous 1-0 win over United.

Having won the last three games, D.C. United’s fans will surely hope that this great run can last. After being last in the Eastern Conference for the better part of the season, the team is now eighth and in a reaching distance of the seventh place.

Everton has parted ways with manager Sam Allardyce.

Allardyce was appointed as manager of the club in November after they were flirting with relegation.

Under the guidance of Allardyce, the performances of the Toffees improved and they ended off finishing the Premier League in a respectable eighth position. Many fans of the club were however unhappy with the style of play that Allardyce orchestrated. There were also concerns over whether Allardyce would be able to match the clubs ambitions.

Everton is a club that is pushing to ensure that it finishes strongly on the top half of the standings. Through Allardyce’s managerial career, he has been mainly managing clubs who finish on the bottom half of the standings or who aim to avoid relegation.

“We have made the decision that, as part of our longer-term plan, we will be appointing a new manager this summer,” said new chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale.

“On behalf of the chairman, board of directors and Mr Moshiri, I’d like to thank Sam for the job he has done at Everton.”

“Sam was brought in at a challenging time last season to provide us with some stability and we are grateful to him for doing that,” she added.
