The Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed forward Matheus Cunha on loan from Atletico Madrid. The Brazilian will arrive at the Molineux on January 1, 2023, and will play with the Premier League side until the end of the season. The Wolves revealed that the player could remain at the club on a permanent deal through 2027 should certain clauses be triggered.

Having arrived in Madrid in August 2021, Cunha struggled to break into Atletico’s starting 11. He has made 40 appearances for Atletico, mostly from the bench, scoring six goals in the process.

Although his tenure at Atletico may not have lived up to expectations, Cunha has featured notably on the international stage. He made his Brazil debut in September 2021 during a World Cup qualifying game against Chile and won a gold medal with Brazil’s under-23 side at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Before joining Atletico, Cunha played in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig from 2018 to 2020 before spending a season with Hertha Berlin. He began his career with Swiss club Sion.

Wolves will be hoping that Cunha can bolster their attack and help them climb out of last place on the Premier League table. Currently, Wolves have scored just eight Premier League goals to date, making them the league’s lowest scorers.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been fined £25,000 ($34,000) by the Premier League as a result of his unsportsmanlike conduct towards referee Lee Mason.

Following the Wolves’ 2-1 loss to Burnley at Turf Moor on December 21st, Nuno Espirito Santo explained during his post-match interview that in his view, Mason “does not have the quality to whistle a game in the Premier League.”

He went on to justify his statement by explaining, “It is not about the crucial mistakes or decisions, it is about the way he handles the game.” Santo claimed that Mason is unable to keep control of players during the games he officiates, and that he would prefer that Mason would not get involved in future games involving the Wolves.

While Santo apologized two days later for the timing of his comments, he refused to apologize for the opinion that he expressed.

The FA charged Santo on New Year’s Eve for his comments, with the fine ultimately being handed to the manager at a formal hearing in front of an independent regulatory commission. According to the FA, his actions had been found to be in contravention of FA Rule E3.1. Santo ultimately accepted the charge of improper conduct.

A scary scene took place at Emirates Stadium on Sunday night, as Arsenal defender David Luiz and Wolves forward Raul Jimenez suffered a nasty clash during an attempt to head a ball following a corner kick.

Jimenez, who got the worst of the blow, was diagnosed with a fractured skull after the collision and was taken to a London hospital and underwent surgery to repair the damage suffered.

Arsenal had won a corner kick in only the fifth minute of yesterday’s match between two teams with European aspirations, and Willian Jose took a kick from the right corner that Luiz came crashing forward to try to head past Rui Patricio into goal.

Unfortunately, instead of finding the ball, his head found Raul Jimenez’s head, who was attempting to defend the play.

A nasty sound was heard in the stadium and on television broadcasts of the match as the players’ heads collided. Luiz and Jimenez both went down to the ground immediately, although Luiz was standing just a few minutes later and returned to play in the rest of the match.

Jimenez was given supplemental oxygen as he remained on the pitch for nearly 10 minutes. He was taken off of the field on a stretcher and rushed to a London hospital, where his skull fracture was identified and diagnosed.

His surgery was successful and Jimenez should undergo a full recovery, but there is no timetable as to when he might return to the field. For now, he’ll focus on simply recovering from one of the nastiest clashes in recent sports history.

Portuguese international left-back Nelson Semedo confirmed his departure from FC Barcelona, putting an end to weeks of speculation. He took to Instagram to post a farewell message to the La Liga giants.

His message explains, “Thank you very much, Barcelona for giving me the opportunity to live the dream of wearing this shirt, of playing in Camp Nou, of learning and enjoying the best in the world. Thank you for making me grow as a player and as a person. These were three wonderful years that I will never forget. Thank you to my colleagues, staff, fans, and all the people who helped me since I arrived. I wish you the best of luck in the world. Eternally gratifying. Long live Barca!”

The 26-year-old player has been repeatedly linked with a move to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, who will be looking to replace Matt Doherty following his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. Wolves’ manager Nuno Espirito Santo emphasized the need for Wolves to sign more players following his team’s 3-1 loss at home to Manchester City.

While he refused to divulge any specific details regarding a possible move for Semedo, he did explain, “It’s important that we balance and straighten the squad. We saw today we had a problem, we need solutions.”

Semedo is rumored to have a price tag of $39 million.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of highly-rated teenage striker Fabio Silva. The club brought in the youngster from Porto for a fee of $47 million—a club transfer record. The club’s previous transfer record was the $40 million signings of striker Raul Jimenez from Benfica.

Much is expected of Silva upon his arrival at the Molineux. Not only was he Porto’s youngest ever player, but their youngest ever goalscorer as well. Interestingly enough, it was Wolves teammate Ruben Neves who previously held both of these titles.

Wolves’ executive chairman Jeff Shi had the following to say on Silva’s talent, “We’ve been following Fabio’s development for a long time. He’s a player that you only need several minutes to see his natural football talent. In recent years, Fabio has been developing very fast and now has proven himself in Porto’s first team, which is a top squad.”

He also explained how, despite Silva’s young age, he expects the striker to make an immediate impact on the squad’s performance in the new season.

Wolves officially announced the arrival of Portuguese striker Fabio Silva in the Twitter post below:

The world was surprised by the unexpected Wolves victory who managed to beat Manchester City even though City showed dominance on the field.

Manchester City showed greater possession in the soccer match which after a great struggle ended with a tie. The game offered both sides great chances to score but they were all missed, ending the game with a 0-0 after 90 minutes.

As no goals were scored in the whole game, it continued with a penalty shootout in which Manchester City managed to score 2 goals, with the Wolves team scoring 3, winning the club Asian Trophy.

After both teams missed their first penalties, Ryan Bennett gave the Wolves the advantage in the shootout. Next, Max Kilman from the Wolves missed his shot and Danilo da Silva scored so the result became even. This was followed by goals for both teams scored by Taylor Perry and Aleix Garcia. The game ended with Runen Vinagre’s goal which sealed City’s faith after Lukas Nmecha failed to score the last shot.
