The young up-and-coming forward is on the verge of making the third line for the Toronto Maple Leafs during their next qualifier. This would make him the first 18-year-old in 12 years to play an NHL game for the Leafs.
During his unofficial professional debut, Robertson grabbed an assist as the Maple Leafs defeated the Montreal Canadiens in an empty Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday.
Maples Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe had the following to say about Robertson’s performance, “He’s not a guy short on confidence and he’s shown that throughout camp. He goes out every shift and tries to make the most of it. I thought there were some really good positive signs in his play. We continue to believe in him, and he hasn’t had any lapses that have made us doubt ourselves giving him that opportunity.”
Robertson was selected by the Leafs in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft. Since then, he has formed a strong chemistry alongside center Alexander Kerfoot and wing Kasperi Kapanen, with whom he played alongside during his debut.
