3 Most Memorable Baseball Moments of the Decade

Like any decade in baseball, the 2010s were filled with new records, exciting World Series games, and lots of drama. Besides for it being the first decade since 1910 that the Yankees haven’t appeared in a World Series, the 2010’s stand out in 3 other memorable ways.

Vin Scully Retirement

Even the best ballplayers can only play around 20 years if all goes right, but Vin Scully was the voice of the Dodgers for so long that it was hard for anyone to imagine baseball without him. At age 25, Scully became the youngest person to broadcast a World Series game, and he did it back in 1953 when the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn! At age 88 he sadly called it quits after the 2016 season.

Miggy Hits For the Triple Crown

One of the hardest feats in baseball is the Triple Crown—leading the league in batting average, homeruns, and RBIs. It is so rare that it hasn’t happened since Carl Yastrzemski did it in 1967 until Miguel Cabrera managed it in 2012. “Miggy” batted .330 with 44 HRs and 139 RBIs for the Detroit Tigers to lead the AL in all 3, and this might be something that we won’t see for another few decades.

Cubs Win the World Series

Some team has to win the World Series every year, but nobody ever had to wait 108 years like the Cubs did! Chicago had famously not won it all since 1908, and the Cubs not winning the World Series was the most consistent thing in baseball- until it all came together in 2016. This moment will definitely not be forgotten, especially not by Cubs fans.
