The San Francisco 49ers again showed that they have the Los Angeles Rams’ number. In the Monday Night Football clash between the two teams, the 49ers delivered a dominant performance that saw them come out on top and get a 9-24 win.

The 49ers’ defense proved to be just too much for the Rams to overcome. The reigning Super Bowl champs failed to score a single touchdown and turned the ball twice, including a pick-six. San Francisco’s defense also sacked the Rams’ quarterback Matthew Stafford seven times.

“We knew it would be an ice-bag game,” Talanoa Hufanga, who intercepted Stafford for pick six, said after the game. “Every time we play these guys it’s a physical matchup. For us as a defense, we want to be the rock. We want to be solid on defense, stand our ground and go out there and swarm.”

On the offensive side of the ball, the 49ers were composed and took advantage of their chances. The new-old starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo took care of the ball while throwing for 239 yards and a touchdown. Star wideout Deebo Samuel had six receptions for 115 yards and a score, while running back Jeff Wilson Jr. ran for 74 yards and a TD.

This was the seventh-straight win for San Francisco against the LA team in the regular season. However, the Rams won their most recent playoff clash, beating the 49ers in the NFC Championship game during the last season’s Super Bowl run.

The 49ers’ win further complicated things in the NFC West. Now San Francisco, the Rams, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Seattle Seahawks all have a 2-2 record.
