It would make sense that the San Francisco 49ers would be leaving New York happy after crushing the Jets 31-13. Instead, they are leaving battered, with an obscene number of key players suffering serious injuries.

The most brutal injury San Francisco will have to deal with is the loss of defense star Nick Bosa, who reportedly has torn his ACL and will be out for the year. Bosa was named Defensive Rookie of the Year last year and many believed that he would be a top candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2020-2021.

Another key piece of the San Francisco defensive front, which carried the team to the Super Bowl last year, suffered the same injury with likely the same result. Solomon Thomas also appears to have torn his ACL.

The injuries didn’t stop with the defense. San Francisco’s starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo also suffered a high-ankle sprain and will miss a few weeks. Both their starting running back Raheem Mostert and his backup Tevin Coleman suffered injuries as well.

According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, players were complaining that the turf at Metlife Stadium felt sticky and that many players were worried about getting hurt.

The league will have to investigate these claims and look to rectify the situation. San Francisco will have to play in the same stadium next week against the other New York team, the Giants.
