San Francisco 49ers will keep head coach Kyle Shanahan at the helm for the foreseeable future. The team announced on Thursday that Shanahan inked a new multi-year contract with the organization.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Shanahan signed a six-year deal with the 49ers that will keep him around through 2025. The extension will replace the three years Shanahan had on his old contract while making him one of the NFL’s highest-paid coaches.

The 49ers believe that they have one of the best coaches in the game in Kyle Shanahan and wanted to show their appreciation for the 40-year-old with this new deal. They also remain committed to the project of bringing back the Super Bowl trophy to San Francisco that started with Shanahan’s hiring in 2017.

Shanahan had losing seasons in his first two years with 49ers, posting a 10-22 record. However, he turned things around last season, leading the team to first place in NFC West with 13-3 record and NFC-leading 29.9 points per game average. San Francisco also made it to the Super Bowl, where they lost to Kansas City Chiefs.

Prior to joining the 49ers, Shanahan had a stint as offensive coordinator for Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns.
