The San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan revealed to reporters on Monday morning that receiver Deebo Samuel and quarterback Brock Purdy are expected to return from injury before the end of the season.

Both Samuel and Purdy underwent a series of tests on Sunday that revealed the extent of both players’ injuries. Samuel is confirmed to have incurred a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee and a sprained left ankle, while Purdy has picked up a rib and oblique injury.

Purdy is considered day-to-day by the team and is listed as a limited participant in training. As a result, he is a potential participant in the Niners’ upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night.

Samuel, on the other hand, is expected to be sidelined entirely for some time and is “expected to return at some point during the regular season,” according to Shanahan. It was confirmed, however, that Samuel has not suffered any broken bones.

Purdy picked up his injury during Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he dived for a first down during the Niners’ second drive of the game. While he played through his injury, Samuel was not so lucky as he was carted off in the second quarter.
