The San Francisco 49ers signed quarterback Tom Savage on Friday one day after releasing him. In a corresponding move, the 49ers placed running back Raheem Moster and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley to the team’s injured reserve.

Savage was first signed by the 59ers last month on Oct. 16. Four days later, the team released him. They reassigned him on Oct. 22 and waived him again last Thursday. Yet again, San Francisco renewed their faith in the 28-year-old on Friday evening.

Savage, who previously played for the New Orleans Saints, has had little play time with the 69ers. He’s added depth to the quarterback position when he plays and was splendid in the team’s 34-3 win over the Raiders.

Before joining New Orleans, the 28-year-old had a spell with the Houston Texans for four years, playing only 13 games. Nonetheless, he completed 181 or 315 passes, logged 2,000 yards and made five touchdowns.

The Pennsylvania native attended college at the University of Rutgers for two ears and Pittsburgh for a year. He played 31 games in the three years, completed 430 passes for 5,690 yards and 37 touchdowns.

While both Mullen and Savage may play on Sunday, Mostert will remain in the IR after his successful forearm surgery on Friday.
