49ers Still Looking to trade WR Dante Pettis Says Coach Kyle Shanahan

San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver core suffered a tough blow during the 33-6 win over New England Patriots on Sunday with both Deebo Samuel and Richie James going down with injuries. But it looks like not even this will help 2018’s second-round pick Dante Pettis to find his way back to the field.

Pettis has been inactive for the past two weeks, and the 49ers have been openly shopping the 25-year-old player for some time now. And, according to 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan, the team hasn’t changed their opinion and remain open to moving on from him despite the injuries.

“I know Dante got mentioned a few days ago,” said Shanahan. “We’ll see if anything comes up that can help our team, but if it doesn’t, I know Dante can help our team being on it too. So, we’ll look into those injuries tomorrow and keep laying out all trade possibilities until the deadline’s over.”

While San Francisco looks eager to part ways with Pettis, it is highly unlikely that they could get something in return for him. The former Washington product suited up for 49ers four times this season but failed to record a single reception. His only stats include two returns for 14 yards.

San Francisco had high hopes for Dante Pettis after trading up to draft him 44th overall three years ago. However, Pettis struggled since turning pro and totaled just 38 receptions for 576 yards and seven touchdowns in the past two seasons. And by the looks of it, he won’t get a chance to improve this statline, at least not as a 49er.
