If Seria A resumes its 2019/20 season at some point, it is likely that AC Milan will have to proceed without their star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. According to several reports, Ibrahimovic suffered an injury during training, and the team fears he could be out for the season.

Reportedly, Ibrahimovic injured his calf on Monday and is set to undergo future tests that would determine the severity of the injury. Sources close to the club told Italian media outlets that the injury might have affected the 38-year-old’s Achilles, which would certainly cause him to miss several months.

Ibrahimovic joined AC Milan in December after his contract with MLS side LA Galaxy expired. He made 10 appearances for the club in all competitions this season, scoring four goals. One of those goals came against his former club and Milan’s bitter rivals Inter, making him the oldest goalscorer in Derby Della Madonnina.

If the reports turn out true and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is done for the season, the chances are that he played his last game in Italy. Ibrahimovic signed a six-month contract with Milan, and there were rumors that he will leave in the summer to end his career elsewhere.

One of the most likely options for Ibrahimovic is the return to his native Sweden, where he could sign with Hammarby. He is part-owner of the club and also trained with the Allsvenskan side in past months in order to keep his fitness level after Seria A suspended its season due to coronavirus pandemic.
