It looks like Houston Dynamo won’t be able to convince their star winger Alberth Elis to sign a new deal. But this doesn’t mean that the Honduran winger isn’t willing to respect his current contract with the club.

Speaking with reporters following his standout performance in a 2-1 win over LA Galaxy, Elis said that he intends to play out his contract with Dynamo and then leave after next season.

“I have a contract for one more year and my decision is to finish my contract and leave at the end free of charge, taking the best decision. I hope this doesn’t bring me any problems next year” – said Elis.

Elis, who currently has scored nine goals and dished 10 assists this season, already told the Houston’s front office about his plans.

“I hope I can finish the contract in the best way possible.” – he added. “I already told [the front office] that I want to finish the contract. Hopefully this doesn’t bring any issues because I don’t know if they want me to stay or not. Let’s see what happens.”

Alberth Elis initially joined Houston Dynamo on loan in 17, and immediately became one of the club’s biggest stars. In his first season in MLS, Elis managed to score 10 goals and have four assists in just 18 games. Dynamo acted quickly and made the deal permanent, which proved to be the right decision in last couple of seasons.

Elis played a total of 86 games in MLS with Houston, scoring 31 goals and handing out 24 assists. He has also played 39 games with Honduras national team, scoring on eight occasions.
