All-Star winger Vladimir Tarasenko is hoping that a change of agents will help him secure a better contract after he had a slow start in free agency.

According to NHL Network’s Elliotte Friedman, Tarasenko parted ways with his former agent Paul Theofanous and is now being represented by JP Barry & Pat Brisson of CAA. Friedman adds that this likely means Tarasenko doesn’t have a deal in place and will restart his free agency process.

Vladimir Tarasenko split his 2022-23 NHL season between the St. Louis Blues and the New York Rangers. He had 18 goals and 32 assists combined, which helped him get his fourth career All-Star nod and first since 2017.

Being one of the most notable free agents this offseason, Tarasenko was expected to have a short free agency and have a deal in place by now. However, this didn’t turn out to be the case despite reported talks with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Tarasenko is a free agent for the first time in his career and previously said that he would prioritize a long-term deal with a team that could provide him with the best situation for his family and a chance to compete for a championship.

Before being traded to the NY Rangers in February, Tarasenko spent his entire career with the Blues. He was one of the key contributors to the team’s unexpected Stanley Cup-winning run in 2019, scoring 11 goals.
