The number 8 Toyota team, composed of Sebastian Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima, and Fernando Alonso won the “Six Hours of Spa” endurance race at the Circuit de Spa – Francorchamps in Belgium, therefore, taking Toyota one step closer to the champions title.
The winning pilots professionally handled the extremely bad weather and the bad condition of the tracks that included heavy rains and even three short snowfalls. They finished the race before any of their opponents.
Toyota’s car number 7, shared between Mike Conway, Hose Maria Lopes, and Kamui Kobayashi started from the pole position and lead with +50 seconds before the final winners until mid-race thanks to the unplanned pit stop for Buemi and Alonso’s spin. But, a failure of the hybrid system of the car made them enter the pit stop and they ended up in the sixth position.
Nakajima, Buemi, and Alonso are in the lead with 31 point which means that achieving 7th place or higher in the ‘24 Hours Le Man’ race in June will be enough for the title.
The second place in the Belgian race was won by the Rebellion Racing Team – Thomas Laurent, Gustavo Menezes, and Nathanael Berthon.
