Celta Vigo, which narrowly avoided relegation in the final matchday of the 2019-20 La Liga season, is busy this summer looking to strengthen its roster heading into the upcoming year.

After announcing the addition of Peruvian international midfielder Renato Tapia earlier in the week, Celta announced on Thursday that they had signed winger Alvaro Vadillo as well on a free transfer.

Vadillo, a Real Betis academy product, comes over to Celta from Granada, where he was a key figure in the team’s ascent to Spain’s first division in 2019 and played an important role in their shock 2019-20 season which saw them finish 7th in La Liga, sending the team to Europa League qualification.

The Cadiz native scored three goals and added one assist in 22 appearances for Granada last season. He spent the latter half of the year on the bench after failing to agree to a contract extension with his former team.

With Celta, Vadillo is expected to add depth to the wings and play in a similar role to Nolito, who joined the team at the end of last season.

Vadillo’s contract has a length of three years, keeping the winger in Galicia until the end of the 2022-23 season.
