Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, one of the wealthiest people in the world, is considering making a bid for the NFL franchise Washington Commanders. According to multiple reports, Bezos hired investment Allen & Company to explore the possibility. This is the same firm that handled the change of ownership for the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos.

FOX Bussiness reporter Charles Gasparino adds that Bezos has the backing of the NFL, considering he would easily meet the rule of 30% owner equity.

Several other interest buyers emerged in recent months since Dan Snyder announced he is open to selling the Commanders. The list includes Josh Harris, the current owner of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils, who already toured the Commanders’ facilities earlier this month. However, neither buyer is willing to meet Snyder’s asking price of $6 billion at the moment, with the highest offer being at $5.5 billion.

There has been a chatter recently that Bezos is at a disadvantage compared to other interested parties despite having the money to pull off this move. These rumors stem from the fact that Snyder and Bezos have a fractured relationship after Bezos-owned The Washington Post published several stories that showed Snyder in a bad light.

Snyder purchased the Commanders in 1999 for a then-record $800 million. Under his ownership, the franchise made the playoffs six times but never progressed past the Divisional Round.
