Football fans all around the world were surprised when the favorite of the Copa America, Argentina, lost by 2-0 against Colombia. This brought the Colombians their first victory over their South American rivals since 2007.

Argentina definitely started this run on the wrong foot and it really showed even though they were expected to reach their third straight final in the Copa America. Colombia’s Roger Martinez scored an outstanding strike in the 71st minute of the match which was followed by a second goal in the 86th minute, scored by Duvan Zapata, securing the victory for the team.

This was all very frustrating to Lionel Messi who planned to lead Argentina to an international trophy. Messi missed the best opportunity of the match to score after David Ospina saved a shot from Nicolas Otamendi.

The 31-year-old Messi said that he didn’t want to start this way and that this Group B defeat has left them all “feeling bitter.” Furthermore, he added, now they have to lift their heads and keep going.

Also, Brazil Scored three goals in the match against Bolivia and the match between Venezuela and Peru finished as a draw, complicating Group B of the Copa America even further.
