Argentina’s national men’s football team had to bring an end to their open-top bus tour in Buenos Aires on Tuesday as millions of fans came to greet their World Cup heroes. Due to issues of overcrowding, the team continued its parade from a helicopter.

Presidential spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti provided the following update on the situation: “The World Champions are flying over the entire route in helicopters because it became impossible to continue on land due to the explosion of popular joy. Let’s continue to celebrate in peace and show them our love and admiration!”

Following their victory in the World Cup final in Qatar on Sunday night, the Argentinian team touched down at Ezeiza airport at around 3 A.M., where thousands of fans waited to greet them with banners, flags, and flares upon arriving back on Argentinian soil.

At one point, security forces would not allow Argentina’s squad to move forward to greet fans at the Obelisco monument in Buenos Aires for fear of safety concerns. Argentine Football Association president Chiqui Tapia posted on Twitter to apologize for the issue and thank fans for their support.
