The 2019 NFL Draft’s first round took place on Thursday night in Nashville, Tennessee. The first pick of the night went to the Arizona Cardinals, who made a franchise-altering decision.

The Cardinals, sho finished with the worst record in the NFL in the 2018 season, selected quarterback Kyler Murray with the first pick in the draft.

The University of Oklahoma graduate became the second consecutive quarterback from the school to be drafted first overall.

Baker Mayfield, who was drafted by the Browns in last year’s draft, was replaced by Murray this past seasonz

Murray turned down a multi-million dollar baseball offer to play for the Oakland A’s in order to enter the NFL Draft.

The quarterback won the Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football in the 2019 season. He threw for 4,361 yards and 42 touchdowns, throwing only 7 interceptions in the process.

Murray is also an athletic, efficient scrambler who finished with just over 1,000 rushing yards for the Sooners last year.

Despite his relatively short stature, Arizona was confident enough in his throwing and running abilities to use the first pick of the draft on Murray.

He’ll be looked to in order to turn around a franchise that’s been down on its luck lately and searching for their franchise quarterback.
