Bill Armstrong has been named the new general manager of the Arizona Coyotes.

The Coyotes parted ways with general manager John Chayka in July.

The split between Chayka and the Coyotes got fairly ugly, with both sides taking shots at one another through the media. There are still some unfinished contract legalities between Arizona and Chayka that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has still to make a ruling on.

Armstrong comes from the St. Louis Blues organization, where he has spent the last 16 years in various roles. Armstrong most recently served as the assistant general manager of the Blues.

According to reports, Armstrong has signed a five-year contract with the Coyotes that will net him more than $1 million per season.

When the Coyotes severed ties with Chayka, Steve Sullivan took over as the general manager, but it’s still unclear whether Sullivan will remain with the team and if so, in what role. Sullivan was interviewed for the general manager job as were Pierre McGuire and Kevin Weekes, both broadcasters, along with former Los Angeles Kings assistant general manager Mike Futa.

Arizona finished the 2019-2020 season with a 33-29 record.
