Liverpool has extended their 100% start to the season to three games, following their resounding 3-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield on Monday night.

With 66% possession and 21 shots on goal, the Reds dominated proceeding throughout the game. While the Gunners got off to a surprise lead through a 24th minute Alexandre Lacazette goal.

The hosts, refusing to take this setback lying down, struck back just three minutes later, with Sadio Mane tapping the ball into the net from close range after a rapid counter-attack.

Just six minutes later, Liverpool grabbed a well-deserved lead as Andrew Robertson connected with a well-struck cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

From the start of the second half, Liverpool was firmly in the drivers’ seat, getting fleeting half-chances on goal from the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Lacazette, Mane, and Diogo Jota. Ultimately, it was new signing Jota who found the back of the net, volleying the ball home after controlling a headed pass.

“[We were] dominant against a team in form and careful as hell that we did not get caught on the counter-attack,” explained Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after his side’s victory. “Alisson had to make one save, they had two chances in behind but apart from that the football we played was exceptional tonight.”
