Houston Astros’ general manager James Click confirmed on Thursday that the organization offered a contract to their arbitration-eligible All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa. The ball is in Correa’s court now, considering he has until January 15th to accept the contract or get back to Houston with a counter-offer.

Outside of Correa, the Astros also made offers to infielder Aledmys Diaz and right-hand pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.. They also agreed to a new one-year deal with veteran Austin Pruitt.

Correa is coming off another productive campaign for the Astros, in which he batted .264 with five home runs and 25 RBIs during the regular season. He played even better in the postseason, having a batting average of .362 to go with six homers and 17 RBIs.

Despite his importance for the Houston Astros, it isn’t guaranteed that Carlos Correa will remain with the organization regardless of how the contract talks play out. Recent reports indicate that the Astros are also willing to discuss trade deals centered around Correa. Looking to shed some salary, they’ve identified the Boston Red Sox as a team with interest in the 26-year-old.

Correa was the Astros’ No.1 pick in the 2012 MLB draft. He made his majors debut in 2015, winning the AL Rookie of the Year award. He then went on to help the team win the World Series in 2017.
