After failing to retain the services of All-Star outfielder George Springer, the Houston Astros turned their focus to Michael Brantley instead and re-signed the veteran to a new two-year deal.

According to Fox Houston’s Mark Berman, Brantley will earn $32 million in the next two seasons.

Brantley, who has four All-Star selections to his name, had a solid 2020 MLB season. He made 46 appearances during the regular part of the campaign, batting .300 alongside five home runs and 22 RBIs.

By getting the 33-year-old slinger back, the Astros compensated for losing Springer and retained a reliable and consistent hitter. But expect the team to be in the market for more additions.

The news about Michael Brantley’s stay in Houston comes just hours after it was reported that he had a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. Earlier on Wednesday, it seemed that Brantley will join the Blue Jays on a three-year contract, but the move eventually fell through.

There is a good chance that the Blue Jays backed on the agreement after they received a positive response from George Springer. According to reports, Springer has a six-year, $150 million deal in place with Toronto.
