New England Patriots have been on the market for a wide receiver since the start of the season and have finally managed to get one days before the NFL trade deadline. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Atlanta Falcons traded a wide receiver to Patriots in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2020.

After releasing Pro Bowler Antonio Brown in late September, Pats were exploring trade options for several top WRs in the game. They reportedly had discussions with Cincinnati Bengals about A.J. Green and with Denver Broncos about Emmanuel Sanders, but failed to strike a deal with either team.

Eventually, New England settled for Sanu, who they were trying to acquire earlier this year. The 30-year-old has 33 receptions for 313 yards and one touchdown so far in 2019.

After learning about the trade, Sanu went on social media and said he is “forever grateful for the opportunity” Falcons gave him.

Mohamed Sanu entered the league in 2012 as Cincinnati Bengals’ third-round pick. After four years in Cincinnati, where he was in and out as a starter, Sanu signed with Falcons in 2016. Since then, he established himself as the team’s second option behind Julio Jones and managed to rack up 225 receptions for almost 2,500 receiving yards and 14 TDs.
