Atlanta United’s youngster George Bello just can’t catch a break this season. After suffering a groin injury in February during a CONCACAF Champions League match and recovering just recently, Bello is once again facing a lengthy break from soccer.

Atlanta announced on Friday that Bello suffered a right adductor injury during training and will be sidelined two to three months. According to the team’s manager Frank de Boer, the 17-year-old will undergo surgery “soon.”

Bello, who supposed to get an opportunity to earn more playing time in 2019, was disappointed by the news but tried to remain positive.

“Very disappointed to have suffered an injury that will keep me out for 2-3 months.” – Bello wrote on Twitter. “It’s going to be really hard not being able to be out there and playing for that long. I won’t lose focus though, and will come back even stronger than I left off. I’ll try my best to stay positive and trust God that this setback will make me a better player and person. Appreciate all the love and prayers. Road to recovery starts now. I’ll be back soon.”

George Bello signed with Atlanta United in June 2017 under the Homegrown Player rule. After spending some time with Atlanta United’s reserve team, which competes in USL Championship, Bello made his MLS debut on September 2, 2018, against D.C. United. He ended up making three appearances and scoring one goal during the 2018 MLS season.
