The post Astros’ All-Star RHP Lance McCullers Jr. to Make His First MLB Start Since 2022 on Sunday appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>McCullers’ last appearance on the mound in MLB came in Game 3 of the 2022 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. A muscle strain ruled him out for the start of 2023 before he was shut down for the season following surgery on his pitching arm. He then experienced a setback in his rehab that prevented him from returning in 2024.
McCullers has now completed four rehab starts in the minors, including pitching five shutout innings for Corpus Christi in Double-A, which was enough for Espada to give him the nod against the White Sox.
“I’m really excited to have him on the mound on Sunday,” Espada told reporters on Wednesday. “He’s worked his tail off to get back to this point, and this whole entire team and this city should be excited to get Lance back.”
“Been waiting for it for a long time,” McCullers added. “Almost feel like I’m making my debut in some aspects, but it’s been a really long road for me.”
McCullers was drafted by the Astros in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft and received his MLB debut in 2015. He won two World Series in Houston and was named an All-Star in 2017. His career stats include a 49–32 record, 3.48 ERA and 800 strikeouts.

]]>The Grizzlies beat the Dallas Mavericks 106-120 on the back of a strong first quarter in which they outscored their opponents by 15 points. Ja Morant led the way for Memphis with 22 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds while Jaren Jackson Jr. added 24 points and seven rebounds.
The Grizzlies will now face the first-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of Western Conference Playoffs.
The Heat got in with a 123-114 overtime win over the Atlanta Hawks. They made some history in the process, becoming the first No. 10 seed in NBA history to make the playoffs.
Miami, who will face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round, was led by Tyler Herro with 30 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Veteran point guard Davion Mitchell also made a big contribution by scoring nine points in the overtime.
The 2025 NBA Playoffs will also see the Houston Rockets (No. 2) face the Golden State Warriors (No. 7), the Los Angeles Lakers (No. 3) going up against the Minnesota Timberwolves (No. 6), and the Denver Nuggets (No. 4) taking on the Los Angeles Clippers (No. 5) in the Western Conference.
The rest of Eastern Conference matchups include the Boston Celtics (No. 2) versus Orlando Magic (No. 7), the New York Knicks (No. 3) versus Detroit Pistons (No. 6), and the Indiana Pacers (No. 4) versus the Milwaukee Bucks (No. 5).

]]>Ovechkin broke the record in his 1,487th game in the NHL. Curiously, it is the same number of games that Gretzky played before retiring with a career goal total of 894.
Ovechkin scored the record-breaking goal with a shot from the top of the left circle with 12:34 left in the second period.
The game was paused after the goal to properly honor Ovechkin’s historic achievement. He was treated to a ceremony that included Gretzky and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, who were in attendance, congratulating Ovechkin.
“This is something crazy,” Ovechkin told reporters after the game. “I’m probably going to need a couple more days. Maybe a couple weeks to realize what it means to be No. 1 … All I can say: I’m very proud. I’m very proud for myself. I’m really proud for my family, for all my teammates, that helped me to reach that milestone, and for all my coaches. It’s huge. It’s an unbelievable moment.”
The Capitals selected Alex Ovechkin first overall in the 2004 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2005–06 and has since become one of the best players the league has ever seen. Over the course of his career, he earned eight First-Team All-Star selections and was named Hart Memorial Trophy recipient three times. Ovechkin also led the Capitals to the Stanley Cup championship in 2018.
While Gretzky ceded his spot as NHL’s all-time leading scorer, he still holds 37 other regular season records. These include career assists (1,963) and career points (2,857), both of which appear safe for the time being.

]]>The jersey was photo-matched to a preseason game that Jordan played for the Bulls on October 5, 1984, and several other games during his rookie season. It was already auctioned off in 2009 when it reached the price of $66,000. This is the only jersey from Jordan’s rookie season to become available at an auction to date.
Another interesting thing about the jersey is that it has been repurposed. The Bulls likely took a jersey worn by another player, removed the name and the number of the previous holder, and placed Jordan’s.
With a sale price of $4.215 million, it became the fifth most expensive NBA jersey sold at an auction. The record is held by Jordan’s jersey from Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals ($10.1 million), followed by Kobe Bryant’s jersey from the 2007-08 MVP season ($5.85 million), Wilt Chamberlain’s jersey from title-clinching Game 5 of 1972 NBA Finals ($4.9 million), and jersey Jordan wore during the 1996-97 NBA season ($4.7 million).
Sotheby’s also plans to auction off Bryant’s game-worn jersey from his rookie season in April. The jersey, which the late Los Angeles Lakers wore in seven games in 1996-1997, is expected to fetch a price of $10 million.

]]>The post Aaron Rodgers is Reportedly “Hoping” to Sign With the Vikings appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>According to a joint report by Michael Silver, Dianna Russini, and Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Rodgers is “hoping to sign with the Vikings.” However, it will be up to Minnesota’s head coach Kevin O’Connell whether the move materializes.
The Vikings believe that they could be a contender with Rodgers under center in 2025 but are hesitant to pull the trigger due to the presence of second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy. The front office and coaching staff fear that adding Rodgers might hamper McCarthy’s growth and be perceived as a lack of faith in the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
McCarthy was impressive in the preseason and was reportedly in play to be the team’s Week 1 starter as a rookie before suffering a season-ending injury. The Vikings then turned to Sam Darnold and went 14-3 before being eliminated by the Los Angeles Rams in the first round of the playoffs.
Rodgers endured a rough season with the New York Jets, going 5-13 while throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. After the Jets decided to move on from him, Rodgers was believed to be short on options, but now several teams see him as their potential starting quarterback in 2025.
Rodgers would have a clear path to start for the Giants and Steelers, as these teams don’t have viable options at the quarterback position at the moment. However, the Vikings would give him a better shot at finishing his career at a high level considering their stacked roster.

]]>The post NY Giants Are Exploring the Possibility of Adding Future Hall of Fame QB Aaron Rodgers appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Rodgers is set to become a free agent this offseason after spending two years with the New York Jets. Despite questions surrounding his desire to continue playing, he has been recently dropping hints about returning in 2025 if he finds the right fit.
After being limited to just four plays in 2023 due to an Achilles injury, Rodgers played all 17 games in 2024. However, he was far from his usual self, completing 63% of his passes and throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while the Jets went 5-12.
Due to his decline last year, Rodgers is considered a budget option for the Giants as he likely wouldn’t command a big contract. He can help them win now while also mentoring a young quarterback in case the franchise decides to take one with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Giants pursued Matthew Stafford in recent weeks, but the veteran signal-caller opted to restructure his contract with the Los Angeles Rams instead of pushing for a trade. They reportedly also have their eyes on several other free-agent quarterbacks as an alternative to Rodgers including Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson.

]]>James played in the Rising Stars Challenge in his rookie year in 2004 and then proceeded to be selected the All-Star starter for a record 21 times. He played in 20 previous All-Star games and was named the All-Star MVP three times.
“I was hoping it would feel a lot better this morning, but it was not where I wanted it to be,” James said explaining his decision to sit out.
James previously also missed the Lakers’ 124-117 win over the Indiana Pacers last week due to the same injury. The veteran is now targeting Wednesday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets for his return to the court.
Despite playing his 22nd season in the NBA, James still remains one of the best players in basketball. He is averaging 24.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game in 2024-25, helping the Lakers to a 32-20 record and fifth place in the Western Conference.
Even without James, Team Shaq managed to win the new iteration of the All-Star Game. They beat Team Candance in the semi-finals of the mini-tournament before a 41-25 win over Team Chuck in the finals. Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry was honored with the All-Star MVP award.

]]>The Packers didn’t have a “go-to” guy in 2024 and instead saw young receivers Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks each getting their own fair share of targets. However, neither of them managed to get more than 55 catches or clear the 1,000 yards receiving.
Jacobs believes the Packers’ young wideout core can be “special” but said the team needs more consistency in the catching department.
“We’ve got a really young group of receivers,” Jacobs said. “All can be really, really, really special, but I think personally we need a guy that’s proven to be a No. 1 already, somebody that we know is going to be a little bit more consistent.”
The Packers didn’t have a true No. 1 wide receiver since trading away Davante Adams in 2022. According to Jacobs, Adams would be the right man to take on that role in Green Bay once again.
“If he come at the right price, if he come at the right price, tell him it’s live,” he jokingly added. “Nah, I have had talks with Tae.”
Jacobs himself had a great campaign in 2024, his first as a member of the Packers. He rushed for 1,329 yards while having a career-high 15 touchdowns on the ground.

Man City’s Pep Guardiola praised PSG’s performance on Wednesday night and admitted they were better this time around.

Man City is on the brink of Champions League elimination after losing to PSG, and they’ll have to defeat Club Brugge at home next Wednesday to stay in the league.

]]>The deal is reportedly pending a physical and is expected to become official by the end of the week.
Verlander was on the free agent market longer than expected after a down 2024 season with the Houston Astros. He dealt with shoulder inflammation that limited him to 17 starts, in which he went 5-6 with a 5.48 ERA, his worst since rookie season, and 74 strikeouts.
While Verlander struggled last year and is set to turn 42 in February, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Giants decided to take a flier on him. He is a future Hall of Famer and is just two seasons removed from his most recent Cy Young Award-winning campaign. Additionally, the Giants already have an enticing rotation that doesn’t have to depend on Verlander being on top of his game to deliver, but he can reap the benefits if he ends up finding his groove.
Additionally, Verlander will bring experience and leadership to the clubhouse and serve as a mentor to the Giants’ young pitchers, such as Kyle Harrison, Hayden Birdsong, and Landen Roupp.
Justin Verlander made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2005 and went on to play 13 years for the franchise. He went on to spend six years with the Houston Astros, winning two World Series, before signing a record deal with the New York Mets ahead of 2023. His stint with the Mets lasted eight months, and he was traded back to the Astros.
Verlander has a career record of 262–147 with 3.30 ERA and 3,416 strikeouts. He is the leader in wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched among all active players.
