The Green Bay Packers’ approach of having a wide receiver committee instead of an established top wideout isn’t sitting well with running back Josh Jacobs. In an interview with 97.3 The Game, Jacobs said that he wants the franchise to add a “proven” No.1 option at the position.
The Packers didn’t have a “go-to” guy in 2024 and instead saw young receivers Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks each getting their own fair share of targets. However, neither of them managed to get more than 55 catches or clear the 1,000 yards receiving.
Jacobs believes the Packers’ young wideout core can be “special” but said the team needs more consistency in the catching department.
“We’ve got a really young group of receivers,” Jacobs said. “All can be really, really, really special, but I think personally we need a guy that’s proven to be a No. 1 already, somebody that we know is going to be a little bit more consistent.”
The Packers didn’t have a true No. 1 wide receiver since trading away Davante Adams in 2022. According to Jacobs, Adams would be the right man to take on that role in Green Bay once again.
“If he come at the right price, if he come at the right price, tell him it’s live,” he jokingly added. “Nah, I have had talks with Tae.”
Jacobs himself had a great campaign in 2024, his first as a member of the Packers. He rushed for 1,329 yards while having a career-high 15 touchdowns on the ground.
