The New York Jets have been the laughingstock of the NFL for several years, and it doesn’t look like things will change anytime soon. Especially now after their linebacker B.J. Goodson decided to retire from football less than two weeks after signing with the franchise.

The Jets confirmed the news by announcing on social media that Goodson was placed on the Reserve/Retired list. Neither the team nor the player provided further details about the retirement.

The Jets’ linebacker core has been plagued by injuries at the start of the 2021 season prompting the team to turn to Goodson and sign him on a one-year, $2.1 million deal on September 14th. The 28-year-old player was expected to provide depth at the position while also bringing some veteran leadership and experience to the locker room.

Things didn’t go as planned, however, as Goodson failed to take a single snap for the Jets on defense during his time with the franchise. He appeared in a Week 2 loss to the New England Patriots, but all of his seven snaps came on special teams.

B.J. Goodson entered the league in 2016 as the New York Giants’ fourth-round pick. He spent three years with the Giants before embarking on stints with the Green Bay Packers and the Cleveland Browns. Goodson racked up 251 tackles, one sack, 12 pass deflections, and four interceptions in his NFL career.
