Baltimore Ravens tight end Nick Boyle, one of the best and most physical blocking tight ends in the NFL, will miss the rest of the 2020 season.

Boyle suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third quarter of the Ravens’ 23-17 Sunday night loss to the New England Patriots.

Boyle caught a four-yard pass after which he was hit in the knee by Patriots linebacker Terez Hall, who was making the tackle. Boyle’s knee was hit directly and bent backward from the blow.

The veteran tight end has long been recognized as an elite pass-blocker, but he has been surprisingly effective as a pass-catcher as well. He is the Ravens sixth-leading receiver currently.

That was not the only injury that Baltimore suffered on Sunday Night in New England, where the conditions were wet and wintery. Nose tackle Brandon Williams suffered an ankle injury and cornerback Terrell Bonds suffered a knee injury. They were already without their best defensive end Calais Campbell.

Without Campbell and Williams in the defense front, the Patriots were able to run wild for 173 yards.

This is also the second time in the last three games that the Ravens have lost a starter on offense to a season-ending injury. Earlier in the month, starting right tackle Ronnie Stanley was lost for the season to an ankle injury.
