Thanks to his outstanding performances with Dutch side Ajax, U.S. star defender Sergino Dest is becoming one of Europe’s most sought-after young players. According to Dest’s agent Joes Blakborn, the 19-year-old back is a target for several big clubs, including La Liga giant Barcelona and Bundesliga’s powerhouse Bayern Munich.

Dest came to prominence through Ajax’s youth ranks before getting a chance in the senior team this season. He used the opportunity in the best way possible and became a regular starter in 2019/20, making 36 appearances in all competition.

Understandably, Dest performances have sparked the interest of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Blakborn told Voetbal international in a recent interview that Barca is particularly interested in Dest, although the Catalan club still hasn’t made an official approach.

“It [interest from Barcelona] is not yet concrete,” said Blakborn. “They have not officially reported to me or Ajax. However, information has been provided in the past. Sergino is one of the full-backs in Europe that they are following. He is an option should Nelson Semedo leave. But I think Sergino is an option for more clubs.”

Blakborn added that Bayern made a more direct approach but that Ajax’s asking price is too much for the German club at the moment.

“Bayern Munich still want to take Sergino from Ajax, but at the moment both parties are still far apart. We can’t do anything about that at the moment,” he explained.

Besides breaking into Ajax’s first team, Sergino Dest also managed to make a debut for United States’ men national team. Despite being born in the Netherlands, Dest decided to represent the U.S.as he was part of the country’s youth teams thanks to the fact that his father is American.

Dest made his international debut for USMNT in September, having played three games so far.
