FC Barcelona continued its slight uptick in La Liga on Wednesday night, coming away from a duel against current La Liga leaders Real Sociedad with a 2-1 victory.

Barcelona, which breezed through its Champions League campaign until a final matchday loss against Juventus, has not had the same fortune in their domestic league this season. The Blaugrana came into the match in just eighth place in La Liga with just 17 points.

Wednesday night’s Barcelona wasn’t perfect, as evidenced by a Willian Jose goal which put them down 0-1 just halfway through the first half. The team’s defensive problems are real, and the play that led to Real Sociedad’s goal are proof of how much work the team and Ronald Koeman have to do there.

However, Barcelona was able to make a comeback after Real Sociedad opened the scoring. Jordi Alba beat Alex Remiro with a brilliant curling strike just four minutes after La Real’s goal, tying the score at 1. Just before halftime, Frenkie de Jong got in on the action with a goal that was created by a brilliant pass by Lionel Messi, putting Barca up 2-1.

They held up in the second half despite not scoring any more goals, and Koeman’s team was thrilled to leave Camp Nou with three points against a very tough opponent.

Barcelona, now fifth in the league, will look to continue its good run against Valencia over the weekend, while Real Sociedad makes a trip to Levante.
