Bayern Munich earned a valuable 1-0 away win at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night to take the advantage going into the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 fixture.

Kingsley Coman scored early in the second half, refusing to celebrate out of respect for his former club. This goal proved enough as the visitors managed to shut out the PSG attack, dictating the flow of play throughout the game with 54% possession and 18 shots on goal compared to PSG’s nine.

This is the second time that Coman delivered the finishing blow in a clash between these two clubs. He scored the only goal in the 2020 Champions League final to hand the trophy to Bayern.

“We played really well in the first 25 minutes and the best team on the night won. It’s an important victory but there’s a second leg coming,” coach Julian Nagelsmann commented after the game.

PSG’s attack was bolstered with the arrival of Kylian Mbappe in the second half, who returns after picking up a hamstring injury on February 1. Prior to his arrival, PSG resorted to using 16-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery, who became the youngest player ever in a Champions League knockout game.

The two sides meet again at the Allianz Arena on March 8.
