Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski Wins UEFA Men’s Player Of The Year

Bayern Munich’s striker Robert Lewandowski is capping off his remarkable year with another big achievement, having received the UEFA Men’s Player Of The Year award on Thursday.

Lewandowski was honored for his contributions to Bayern’s impressive run in 2020, helping the German club to win five trophies with his 55 goals. His teammate Manuel Neuer finished third in the voting while Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne was second. 

“It’s an amazing feeling because you work so hard, so this trophy is something special,” said Lewandowski. “I have to say thank you to my team-mates and coaches who helped me get where I am. Also, my family have given me so much support and are so important.”

Alongside Lewandowski, Bayern had three more winners during the UEFA Awards ceremony. Neuer was named goalkeeper of the season, Joshua Kimmich won the award for the best defender while Hansi Flick took home the men’s coach of the year award.

In other categories, Pernille Harder was named UEFA Women’s Player of the Year and Forward of the Year, Women’s Coach of the Year was Jean-Luc Vasseur, and Sarah Bouhaddi, Wendie Renard, and Dzsenifer Marozsán were named Goalkeeper of the Year, Defender of the Year, and Midfielder of the Year respectively.
