The Chicago Bears’ corner Tyrique Stevenson has apologized for taunting the Washington Commanders’ fans seconds before giving up a Hail Mary pass that cost his team the game.
On Sunday, the Bears recovered from a 12-0 hole to get a 12-15 lead and put themselves in the position to win the game against Commanders. Washington had just one play left before the clock hit zero and decided to attempt a Hail Mary.
The video that has been circling social media shows Stevenson standing in the endzone, with his back turned away from the line of scrimmage and taunting the Commanders’ fans. At the same time, Commanders’ QB Jayden Daniels bought enough time to launch a pass.
Realizing what was happening, Stevenson rushed towards the ball but ended up tipping it and sending it straight to Washington wideout Noah Brown’s arms. The touchdown was confirmed, but the Bears lost the game.
After the game, Stevenson headed to social media, where he apologized for his acts.
“To Chicago and teammates my apologies for lack of awareness and focus …. The game ain’t over until zeros hit the clock. Can’t take anything for granted. Notes taken, improvement will happen,” Stevenson wrote in a post on X.
Tyrique Stevenson is in his second year as a pro, being selected by the Bears in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He has one interception, six passes defended, and 35 tackles in six games he played in 2024.
